"Egg Incubators and Efficiency"

#PokemonGO: Hi TSR, I haven't seen this posted before, but if it has, I apologize in advance.Optimally speaking, the infinite incubator will always be hatching an egg. This means that every time you incubate something else with a usable incubator, you are effectively saving yourself that much distance of walking (since not incubating with the usable incubator means you would have to incubate with the infinite one, and as a result you would have to walk that much distance). This means that, rather than thinking about incubators in terms of uses, it is better to think about them as kilometers saved. Thus, using an incubator on 3 10k eggs is the most efficient, seeing as it will save you 30km of walking. This may seem somewhat counterintuitive, because it seems like waiting to obtain a 10k egg is inefficient, but the key fact to remind yourself if you are tempted to think like this is that the incubators do not decay. They can sit in your inventory as long as necessary. This is why it is most resource-efficient to incubate 2k and 5k with the infinite incubator and 10k eggs exclusively with usable incubators. This is particularly important now that super incubators are available. Though the allure is that it hatches faster, it still breaks after 3 uses. Even though incubating an egg with it will save the suspense of waiting for it to hatch, in the long term, a super incubator is no more efficient than a regular incubator. Using a super incubator on 3 10k eggs will take 20km walking to hatch rather than 30km, but relative to the infinite incubator, both incubators save 30km of walking (had the 3 10k eggs been incubated with the infinite one). This means that, in the long term, the super incubators in the special boxes are exactly the same as if they were regular incubators. In the future, if Niantic hypothetically were to change the incubation system to also include some incubators based on distance/some incubators based on time (breaking after a certain time period is over), the most efficient way to hatch the eggs would still be to use the incubators by use on the 10k eggs and the other types of incubators (infinite, time, distance) on 2k and 5k.Thanks for reading my thoughts, and best of luck with your hatches!Edit: This strategy optimizes for resources, not for time. When events aren't active, I try to hatch all my 5k eggs with my infinite incubator and stock 2k, so that I can quickly remove them when an egg event happens.Edit 2: TLDR; assuming events aren't running and you don't obtain incubators faster than you hatch eggs (if you do, it would probably be more efficient to get raid passes...), the basic strategy boils down to using the incubator on a 5k now or on a 10k later. Effectively, choosing the 5k now (again, this does not apply to event periods) is just succumbing to instant gratification. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2fwBQv9
