"Shut down everything, travelers. A New Pokemon species/form/(?) has flooded the APAC region immediately after the Community Day window. Upon capture, it reportedly turns into a Ditto or Chikorita! All hail our new possibly-a-Ditto-variant overlords!"

#PokemonGO: Something big is happening, travelers.Could this be a brand new Pokemon species? Or a new form of Ditto? We have so little information about what's occurring - we're on the edge of our seats here, and it's exhilarating!Meanwhile, The Silph Road has never seen so many brand new posts flooding /new! To stop the madness, the Silph Road team has, for the first time EVER, had to shut down submissions to the sub for a spell while travelers all over the world figure out what on Earth is going on.Whatever's happening, this is a historic day on the Road. Let's see where we go from here.- Executive Dronpes -What We KnowTimeline: It appeared for 30 minutes after the Community Day window ended in APAC and then vanished. It was Everywhere: Some have reported that not all spawns were this new species/form/thing, but spawns were dominated by it.Capture: When caught, it turned into a standard Ditto! (Some encountered Chikoritas after, but these were likely simply old spawns)Kecleon: Some travelers saw Kecleon on the map - which also turned into Ditto! At present, the new Pokemon/form/thing has been reportedly spawning very infrequently in countries around the world.Leading Theories:1. This is a way to introduce Kecleon. It's possible this is a way to introduce the chameleon Pokemon as a Community Day bonus! Notably, Kecleon spawns have also turned out to be Dittos in disguise, so this doesn't quite add up yet. Perhaps the new Ditto-esque Pokemon was intended to be Kecleon for everyone, but the model failed to load on most devices. Or perhaps, Kecleon wasn't supposed to lead - and the new Pokemon model was intended to be the Ditto in disguise?2. This is a cross-promotion for Pokemon Let's Go. Pokemon Let's GO, which launches in just under 8 weeks, will allow transferring Pokemon from GO to the Switch. Could this possibly be a marketing campaign involving the new game?3. More will come after the next Community Day windows. It's possible we've only seen one piece of the puzzle so far! The 2nd Community Day window is <1 hour away. Might we see something unusual further the story upon the window's close?Updates06:33 UTC: Kento Suga, Global Marketing Lead of Niantic in Japan, has tweeted a screenshot of the Pokemon with the caption: "???" ~ source06:37 UTC: After 30 minutes of hijacking all spawns, ...it appears to be gone!06:52 UTC: Video proof of Kecleon spawns (which also turn into Ditto when caught) has been confirmed07:06 UTC: The Silph Road team has compared audio of the new model's cry to the APK's files and the cry is confirmed to be the audio file for Pokemon #352 ...Kecleon! Whether the new model was supposed to actually be Kecleon, or whether Niantic sneakily hid the cry for the new Pokemon/form/thing under Kecleon's number has yet to be determined. Either way, this is another tie between Kecleon and the new model.07:28 UTC: As a little background info that may prove helpful: in v0.119.1, the audio cry for Pokemon #352 was changed. Here is both the before and after audios for #352's cry, travelers: https://soundcloud.com/user-56840829/pokemon-352-cry-apk-v01191 via /r/TheSilphRoad https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/9hxlio/shut_down_everything_travelers_a_new_pokemon/?utm_source=ifttt
