"Mewtwo: unlocking second move vs leveling up"

#PokemonGO: With the buff to psychic closing the gap between psychic and psystrike, I have been wondering how to efficiently spend my resources on Mewtwo. Specifically, should I add a second move to an already powered-up shadow ball Mewtwo, or power up a new psystrike Mewtwo? The table below shows the performance of five different Mewtwo (M2) against a Terrakion raid - one level 40 Mewtwo with confusion/psychic, and four confusion/psystrike Mewtwo at various significant levels. It also shows the cost to obtain each Pokemon, either by adding a second move (40 psychic) or leveling up from level 20 (all others). Data comes from Gamepress' Comprehensive DPS/TDO Spreadsheet.DPSTDODPS^3*TDOcandy costdust cost40 Psychic30.3174020604100100,00031 (DPS)30.32646179907485,00034 (balanced)31.0869420831114123,00037 (TDO)31.8274423944170169,00040 psystrike32.5379427340248225,000A level 31 psystrike M2 does the same damage per second (DPS) as a level 40 psychic M2. It won't survive as long, though, and consequently does less total damage (TDO). Leveling up a freshly caught psystrike M2 to this level will cost 26 less candy and 15k dust than adding psychic as a second move to an existing M2.At level 37, psystrike M2 is unequivocally better in this raid than any level 40 psychic M2 with similar IVs. It has better DPS as well as better TDO. Getting a psystrike Mewtwo here is costly - 70 extra candy and 69k extra dust compared to the second move route.A level 34 psystrike M2 is the closest comparison to a level 40 psychic M2 for this raid, with a similar DPS^3*TDO score. The cost is fairly similar as well - psystrike will cost you an extra 14 candy and 23k dust. Before I post any conclusions, a few caveats:There is an additional cost to unlocking the second charge move: charge TMs. You may get lucky, but it also may take many charge TMs to finally land on psychic.Lucky and/or weather boosted L25 psystrike mewtwo will obviously change the cost analysis above.Shadow ball is best paired with Psycho cut, while psychic is better (at least on paper) with confusion. If you plan to switch fast move based on current use, factor that in as a cost for the second move route as well.In the end, I decided not to spend resources on unlocking a second move on any mewtwo, and instead use that candy and dust to power up lucky psystrike Mewtwo from lucky trades. I will start by powering them up to level 34 so that I know that they will be on par with any psychic Mewtwo, and I like that they will have room to improve from there if needed for a tough raid. You might reach a different conclusion based on your own preferences and situation. If you are still on the fence, I hope that the table above is a helpful resource! via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2nQ0Ncg
