"Is Indigo League episode 25 "Primeape Goes Bananas" really decanonized now?"

In the episode 25 "Primeape Goes Bananas" of the Indigo League season it was explained that Ash won his iconic Indigo League Expo hat from a lottery and it is a rare collectible because only 100 were made. And ever since, I've considered this the official backstory for this particular hat. However, in the latest special episode, Ash received his OG hat as a gift from his father and some have used this as an explanation that episode 25 is no longer part of the canon since the origin of the hat is now retconned and that the Pokémon the Movie 20: I Choose You! is now an official version of how Ash started his journey because in the movie Ash has the same hat as at the beginning of the special episode. But I have understood that the Ash from the movie and the Ash from the anime are two different alternate universes, in which case it is not a retcon but two different Ash Ketchums from two different universes and the Indigo League is still canon -- except the few banned episodes. And the difference between these two Ashes is that one has a green triangular or L-shaped logo on his hat and the other has a green square or C-shsped logo on his hat.But what do you guys think, is it a retcon or an alternate universe? via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/AWI16ol
