"Misty's rejection was surprisingly sad for a kids show."

Watching clips online I noticed something I never saw as a kid. Misty is clearly shown to have a crush on Ash, but when they finally part ways Ash says they're best friends before separating. As she bikes away she says "I finally know how ash feels about me", as in as a friend and not romantically like she felt.At one point I'm sure the writers intended for her to be the main romantic interest. In a early Japanese trailer for the first Pokemon movie, we see an older misty refer to becoming young again to meet her "first love", this was obviously before they knew the show wouldn't end at season 1.Also this in movie 6, http://ift.tt/2aWDDYN .It's been a decade since she's appeared in the anime and ash has a new love interest now too. So it was a total rejection. A Surprisingly sad thing for main characters to go through in a show meant for kids.EDIT:Well I just found a video that explains this all with even more detail.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQxj_eWbUB4 via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2aHDJAr
