"PSA: PokemonGoPlus is not a pedometer, can only catch 'mon you already have, and requires the app to be up, running, and in the foreground on your phone."

#PokemonGO: I see a lot of comments about "finally, a reason to get a pogo plus" since the buddy system information has been revealed. In replying to a few of them, one thing is becoming pretty clear to me:A lot of people think that having pogo plus means NOT running the app on your phone (false), and a lot of people think that it has/is a pedometer and will enhance your distance tracking (false).Based on what is publicly known and being advertised at this time about Pokemon Go Plus, and can be read on these two pages -http://ift.tt/2c0UjxR things are simply NOT TRUE.What we know:"The Pokémon GO Plus is a small device that lets you enjoy Pokémon GO while you're on the move and not looking at your smartphone. The device connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth""The Pokémon GO Plus accessory can be used with any compatible smart phone that has the Pokémon GO application installed. After the Pokémon GO Plus is paired via Bluetooth LE and a brief setup process is completed, players can encounter and catch Pokémon like never before. When the smart phone with Pokémon Go and the paired Pokémon GO Plus accessory are within range of each other, both will begin to vibrate when a Pokémon is close by. With the convenience of not having to look at your smart phone, simply press the button on the Pokémon GO Plus to attempt to catch a Pokémon while you are out and about."NOTE: read the above carefully - when you're near a pokemon BOTH will begin to vibrate. We already know the phone will only vibrate when a pokemon is nearby if the app is up and running in the foreground."The Pokémon GO Plus will begin to blink and vibrate whenever you're within range of a PokéStop. Press the Pokémon GO Plus button to search the PokéStop for items. If you find any items, swipe or tap them to add them to your inventory.""When a Pokémon is near, the light on the Pokémon GO Plus will flash. It will also flash and vibrate when you pass a PokéStop. Once a Pokémon is close, press the button on the Pokémon GO Plus to throw a Poké Ball. You'll only be able to throw a Poké Ball using Pokémon GO Plus if you've caught the Pokémon before."NOTE: if you want to catch something you don't already have in your pokedex, you can't use pogo plus to do it. If you want to throw a berry or switch ball types, at this time it would appear that you cannot use pogo plus to do it. If you want to know how strong something is or what kind of pokemon it is before you bother throwing a pokeball at it (CP300 Pidgey, I'm looking at you), pogo plus is not how to do it.ALSO NOTE: they don't mention a pedometer. They don't mention distance tracking. They don't use egg hatching a sales pitch... because NONE OF THIS PERTAINS TO THIS PRODUCT.Perhaps there will be other features added but considering release is now listed as September 30 and today is September 6, I would think that the features that are going to be included are decided on, and I surely did not see any product pages being updated to reflect anything else being added. So, don't buy this because you think you will complete your pokedex faster - you can't catch anything new with it. And don't buy this because you think it will track your walking better - it won't. I have nothing against the product - far from it! I just hate to see people talking about pre-orders and spending big bucks after market to buy one on ebay when I do not think they fully understand what this does - and doesn't do.EDITED for formatting purposes. via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2c7F1sa
