"Can we move beyond DPS already?"
#PokemonGO: I just watched the most recent Trainer Tips video where he reports "the best pokemon of each type." The video more of less simply repeats the analysis from u/Nplumb (see http://ift.tt/2dMucKO) that performs calculations purely based on DPS (+ STAB). I don't think that is really the right way to rank pokemon. If you don't plan on dodging, then maybe you do only care about DPS when comparing movesets among the same species. This of course still doesn't allow you to compare pokemon, since to compare pokemon you actually should care about DPSxTime = expected damage output. If you do plan on dodging then you care about damage output over 2s windows. For example, consider the case of Raichu:Spark: 12.5 DPS, with power of 7 and CD of 0.70s. This will allow you to get off 2 Sparks between dodges.Thundershock: 11.67 DPS with power of 5 and CD of 0.60s. This will allow you get of 3 thundershocks between dodges. The actual damage dealt over the 2s window between dodges is greater with thundershock. Then when you consider that thundershock earns almost 17% more energy than spark, and so you can use thunder more often, we should conclude that thundershock is the superior quick move.So why are we still talking about DPS? It seems to be the wrong stat for any style of battling. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2ef9iqU
