"Curveball bonus not registering increasingly common?"

#PokemonGO: It's always occurred that a few obvious curveballs didn't register, but up until thus last update I'd say 90%+ of my curveballs did result in the bonus. Recently however that has tanked, hard. I'd say only ~25% of my curveballs give me a bonus. I can see no trend between long medium or short throws, or between throwing the ball to the side or towards the top of my phone.
