"[discussion] Are local Pokémon Go contests/events now pointless due to spoofing?"

#PokemonGO: Upon launch there were scheduled events and contests all around town. After much of the hype died down, many of the larger sponsors (malls, companies, etc.) stopped hosting such events. I've been to many, and they have ranged from "highest cp" in the event area (this was in the very beginning when your catch actually showed the almost exact location), onward to who could catch the most in the area during a certain timeframe. When location was removed from the tags on captured Pokémon, those types of events went extinct... Because , people took to spoofing and would capture Pokémon in other areas than the designated event space and then bring home a 2000+ Snorlax, or just capture an Eevee and evolve it and feed it candies laced in stardust.Next week there's an event at a mall that has about eight gyms and 20 stops. The event is going to be a timed "Gym build and destroy." At the start, all the gyms will be neutral. One team goes out, builds up a gym as best as they can for 30min. Then the next team goes out and destroys the gyms. Upon destruction the team's destroy time (how long it took to bring the gyms back down to grey/neural) is recorded. After destruction, the team is given the same aforementioned 30min to build up their team's gyms for the next team to destroy. The team that went first, goes last, but only to destroy, as to establish a time for destruction since they only built gyms up at the beginning. Whichever team has the best time and highest gyms, wins a gift certificate. But, there's no possible way to keep spoofers out... right? Perhaps all areas weren't sent with the same spoofer plague, but for those areas that are subjected to such annoyances: are events pointless? via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2jSlmBE
