"Hard to invest in an ever-changing meta"

#PokemonGO: So, I am looking to hear some other players' thoughts on this issue. In order for people to invest in something, they usually need to feel that their effort will pay off in the long run. This usually means that there needs to be stability in the system. For example, if the stock market is fluctuating wildly, investors are going to be hesitant to pour their hard earned cash into new endeavors. I suspect this same principle translates over to Pokemon Go as well. If Niantic can turn the meta on its head every few months, how are players going to feel that investing their time and hard-earned dust in any particular mon, moveset, or prestiging team is worth it? And will remain valuable for more than a few months? The CP changes were pretty big for many players, and largely desired. On the other hand, these moveset shakeups are quite a different animal, as they fundamentally change the worth of many mons in a more dramatic way. In most cases, legacy movesets are really not worth investing in any more, rendering months of work useless. (I'm looking at you Thunder Jolteon). Adding new moves is one thing, but negating the value of old moves is demoralizing. From a game design point of view, it seems completely unsustainable to change things up like this on a regular basis.Furthermore, it's just not the way Pokemon games are supposed to feel. It's already weird to farm pokemon, rather than simply train up a favorite. Now we are farming, investing, and then trashing every few months when the meta changes.Thoughts? Are these meta shakeups reinvigorating a much-needed a stagnant game? Or do they further demoralize players who have invested in their favorite mons? I want Pokemon Go to last a long time, and I worry these types of changes will be a critical barrier to that. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2kHCGdA
