"The 2017 International Challenge sign-ups are open! Participate in 3 battles on the weekend of the 24th to receive Mawilite and Beedrillite in Sun and Moon!"
February's online competition uses the 2017 VGC rules. As you may know, this is also the first chance in Sun and Moon to get the Mega Stones for Mawile and Beedrill. It will also not be the last - according to serebii.net, they will also be released to everyone in a few months, so if you're unable to participate for some reason, you aren't locked out of the mega stones forever. To sign up, you will need a global link account. Many people have had issues creating new ones, and the only thread I'm aware of about the issue is this one (which itself leads to a lengthy GameFAQs discussion).Once you have a Global Link account and have linked a game, you can go here and click Proceed to Sign-Ups. You will be signed up for the competition and ready to go once it starts. Note that, despite what the notice says, you can wait until the competition starts to Download Digital Player ID in-game.The competition runs from Friday February 24th, 12 AM UTC until Sunday February 26th, 11:59 UTC. For Americans, the time zone translates to 7 EST/6 CST/4 PST PM on the 23rd. You will be able to participate in up to 45 battles (15 per day, with unused battles rolling over). To participate, you simply go to the Festival Plaza, tap Battle Spot, and select Online Competitions. If you have signed up via the PGL, you will download a Digital Player ID, be prompted to select a battle team, and then you will be able to queue up to battle another participant. This battle team will be locked for the duration of the competition. You will not be able to use the Pokemon for anything else. When the competition ends, you should be able to go to the Battle Spot and Online Competitions to release the lock on them.In order to qualify for the Mawilite and Beedrillite, you only need to participate in 3 battles during the weekend of the 24th. It doesn't matter whether you win or lose, and you should also be able to simply forfeit.Based on how past competitions have worked, the rewards may take a week or more to be made available. When they are available, you will be able to log-in to the PGL to get a serial code that can be redeemed via Mystery Gift. via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2ljBOez
