"The grass is always greener on the other side... biomes/rare spawns."
#PokemonGO: tl;dr: The grass is always greener on the other side, I want your biome, you want mine.Hi! Traveller from Phoenix AZ here.If you've ever been to Phoenix to play PoGo, you'll know our "desert/arid" biome has the following commons:PidgeyRattataEkansGrowlitheAbraMankeyGeodudeVenonatParasSandshrewThe less-than-common but still easy to happen upon uncommons (you'll see them a few times per day) are:VulpixPonytaCuboneRyhornDiglettExeggcuteBut there are a lot of things we don't see unless we're completely lucky or consciously visiting a nest, like:CaterpieWeedleOddishDrowzeeZubatMagikarpMagnemiteVoltorbAnything water unless you're on the canal pathsAnd the list goes on.Yes, that list includes things that for many of you are very common. Sure, we all joke about the glut of pidgeys we get, but I'd love to even see a Weedle or Caterpie every now and then, especially when I was trying to mass-evolve more regularly (a thing I care less about now that I'm level 30).Meanwhile, my very salty (about this game) friend lives on the northern fringes of the metro area, where it turns from valley desert to high, mountainous desert. In my never ending search for a Dragonite, I'd heard whispers that they spawn wild near the mountains in a "mountain" biome. So I end up on that side of town looking for an area with a lot of Zubat and Clefariy (so I've been told those are indicators of a mountain biome) so I might find a Dratini and my first Dragonite. I know he lives nearby, so I text him and ask him where he lives, exactly, and find out I was a mile from his house. Next thing we know, we're talking PoGo.He hates this game right now. Why? "Because I always got the same [stuff]," he cries, "I have never even found a Snorlax! So I quit!" I sheepishly admit to having 11 (they're a once every few days in my area/biome). I ask him if he has ever gotten a Dragonite though. "Yes", he says, "I caught them while walking my dog in his neighborhood before I quit in October."I'm a level 30 almost 31 and I'm walking a Dratini for just to get my Dragonite. I've logged 400 km already! And he quit because he hasn't found a Snorlax. So friends, the grass is always greener on the other side.EDIT: For those non-English as a first language players, that phrase is an idiom that refers to the way we tend to look at other people’s lives and other things that we don't have in general through rose colored glasses. Acknowledging the best of another's situation without considering the negatives.I've noticed, since this chat with a friend that other people have similar experiences. The guy who used incense on a cruise in northern Europe called a Venonat rare. A player from Seattle mentioned their 1 hatched Growlithe was their buddy. I catch 2-3 Hitmonlee/Chan a week, but I've noticed they're a white whale for a lot of players. What are incredibly rare in your area that might be uncommon but easily (not effortlessly) attainable elsewhere?EDITED: Added a few Pokemon I forgot to my biome list and also added a description of "grass is always greener" for people not familiar with the phrase or non-native English users. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2kPAmQu
