The problem this created was some people ranked all 19 then added more in the comments (including one that ranked one between the others meaning I would have had to shift all of the number.) Therefore, I simply added up the number of times another species was mentioned, but did not give them a score.I intended for people to rank the species assuming they had all the species and unlimited candies; only stardust was meant to be the limiting factor since it is used for everything. This means spending stardust on a sub-par species may prevent you from powering up a better one that you catch in the future.I was not very clear with my wording and many people had different ideas about what I wanted (see below.)Some species that were not listed were voted for several times in the comments. Since they were not listed, they may not have received as many votes.5 out of 100 people did not vote Snorlax at all (?) leading me to believe there were errors (or trolls.)Thoughts/Comments to the CriticismI wanted people to only rate species that they felt were worth spending stardust on and held gyms for at least 21 hours. I understand that your Weedle in the middle of the forest collects more coins than your 100% Dragonite in the middle of town.I understand that low max CP Pokemon like Slowbro and Poliwrath do well in gyms built to cater to their low CP. However, the purpose was to vote for them if you personally invest and use them, not just in theory. If you max yours out and put them in gyms that last more than 21 hours, vote for it.I understand that attacking is significantly easier that defending and that a determined player will drop gyms no matter what.I understand that every area is going to be different. Some areas may consist of only Dragonite, meaning that CP is the only factor whereas some areas might be low on Pokestops, making high damaging Pokemon more valuable. This means that this data does not hold 100% true for everyone. Again, vote for whatever it is you do in your area.I had intended this to be for picking defenders in areas where your team has level 10 gyms that last, not fresh, low level gyms.I had intended for this poll to not include species that make good bottom prestigers, unless you personally spend stardust on them for this reason (ie, not to vote for Flareon if you only evolve them Eevee but never spend stardust on it.)I know most of this was a lack of clarity on my part, but I wanted to address it now instead of in the comments section all over again.Thoughts About the DataThe part that you all skipped to and will criticize without having read my comments have been waiting for.http://ift.tt/2lh7zpc thoughts: The results were pretty close to what I believe. A gym full of tanks will deter people to other quicker gyms making Snorlax, Lapras, and Vaporeon top picks.Dragonite, Rhydon, and Gyarados have high max CP, allowing them to sit higher in gyms at the cost of making them less tanky. Great for dropping into gyms that only drop a few levels at a time, especially if it is not near your home area, or in areas that are flooded with them.Exeggutor has okay CP, but it much better for attacking. However, spending stardust on it mainly for attacking, but occasionally dropping it in gyms means your stardust was not wasted. I feel like Arcanine would fit about here for the same reasons.After that we see a drop as we get into Pokemon that have low CP but still decent stats and deal deal damage. Alakazam would have probably fell in here as well.Your Thoughts?Let me know what you all think, but be sure to read my "Thoughts/Comments to the Criticism" above. Should we do it again with a larger collection base and add some more species?
