"What is high gym turnover?"

#PokemonGO: Being in Hong Kong, anytime people post about having very high turnover, I get the urge to correct them. I've traveled a good amount and have seen places that others would consider high turnover but I would consider an easy place to collect 10 defender bonus. Of course, there is variation within a city or area but here's how I would define various levels of turnover:Extremely high turnover - gyms are under constant attack. A gym normally falls within 5 minutes and any gym that holds for over 15 minutes is considered long standing. Gyms basically never reach level 10. The challenge is capturing a second gym before your first gym falls.High turnover - gyms are attacked many times per day. A gym normally falls in under an hour but some long standing gyms may last several hours. Gyms occasionally reach level 10 but this is uncommon. The challenge is getting onto multiple gyms before your gyms start toppling.Medium high turnover - gyms are attacked several times per day. Most last an hour or two but some gyms may last a full day. A few gyms may reach level 10 but these are typically taken down within the same day. The challenge is getting on to multi-day gyms and taking enough other gyms to get a sizable defender bonus.Medium turnover - gyms are attacked once or twice a day. Most gyms last several hours but larger gyms can last a day or more. Players find it time consuming to get gyms up to level 10 but those that reach level 10 are likely to last at least one day. The challenge is getting onto gyms that last and defending territory.Medium low turnover - gyms are attacked daily or less. Most gyms can last a day but larger gyms may last up to a week. Gyms deep within a territory reach level 10 and are typically rebuilt to level 10 if they fall. The challenge is maintaining your presence in gyms since level 10 gyms in your territory may not fall for several days but if you take gyms in enemy territory, those will be retaken shortly.Low turnover - gyms are attacked every few days. Most gyms last several days and some may last over a week. Gyms that aren't attacked will eventually reach level 10 but since there are fewer players around, it can also take a while to get there. The challenge is finding enough friendly gyms within a reasonable distance to get a sizable defender bonus.Extremely low turnover - gyms are seldom attacked. Most gyms last over a week but some gyms last for months. Gyms owned by the dominant team are likely to reach level 10 and stagnate while gyms owned by the non-dominant team may not see enough players to reach level 10. The challenge is remembering where each Pokemon is when a gym actually falls since the gyms are far apart and so rarely fall. The point of this post is to highlight that every place is different and your goals and play style should adjust to where you are. Don't expect to be on 10 stagnant gyms if you aren't in scenarios 6 or 7 and don't think that other players here are bad at building gyms if they are in scenarios 1 or 2. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2klJjAQ
