"[Calculated] How far should you train a newly acquired gym if you're not going to max it out?"

#PokemonGO: I decided I'd answer this question rather than pose it to you guys. Here's what I worked out. There are certain "tiers" at which another gym battle has to take place to completely empty a gym. For instance, a gym at 7000 prestige requires two battles (-4000, -3000) to clear, whereas a gym at 7001 prestige requires three. I worked out these "breaking points" to be 7001, 13001, 20001, 29001, 39001, 48001 and 50,000. So, ideally, you'd want your gym to be at one of those points if not 50,000.However, every additional Pokémon placed gives 2000 prestige, taking the appropriate amounts off, I devised this table. It considers the fact that you'd have to place one Pokémon in yourself, and doesn't consider other people interacting before you train to this level, so for each Pokémon added while you train, you'd want to train 2000 prestige higher.Prestige RequiredTotal Pokemon InTotal Prestige To Train Up ToTotal Battles to Defeat700133001313001*57001420001*7100015290017170016390018250017480019320018* At these levels there will be an empty spot, not a problem just pointing out that you'd end up 2,000 over. This should make sense. If you wanted to get a gym to just over 7000 to reach that additional battle, training it just over 3000 would get you there, with two people placing Pokémon in after for the extra 4000. Likewise, training to just over 10,000 with five other people placing in gets you to just over 20,000.So it turns out that training gyms to just over 7000, 10000, 17000, 25000, or 32000 are the levels which each make it require an additional battle past the second. Here's a second table for anyone that would rather train a gym to a certain level, instead of to a certain number of battles. For a level X gymTrain to4400056000680007100008180009260001034000I hope these at least help someone! I calculated them in Excel for anyone that wondered. Lots of IF formulas. :)Last edited 26/3 10:51 with a small wording tweak. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2okwN3s
