"[Complaint] Bummed that Nick at Trainer Tips for the need to apologize for being logical and reasonable"
#PokemonGO: For those that haven't been following the drama, Nick's episode a couple days ago basically argued that since this is an augmented reality game, all excuses for spoofing can be answered by a re-iteration of the fact that the game exists in reality and reality differs for different players. Therefore, there will be inequalities and differences in the experience of different players in the game. These inequalities and differences cannot be used to excuse cheating (spoofing).I was initially really pleased with the (somewhat heroic) stance that Nick had taken on this issue, but I am bummed after yesterday's episode where Nick was basically forced to back-pedal or at least soften his argument. This position change appears to be the result of three things 1) Nick's recognition that he is a half-caucasian male living in fairly affluent conditions and therefore it can be argued that he cannot understand the plight of those playing the game under different conditions 2) Nick's recognition that his argument is based on logic rather than the emotional feelings of unfairness or envy that spoofers feel due to inequalities or differences in their experience of the game, and... 3) probably most significantly, Nick is--at the end of the day--an entertainer who makes his wage by having the largest audience possible and that audience can only be enlarged by making his on-screen persona as amenable as possible to the widest audience profile possible--including those that cheat at the game. So, I get why he did it. I can understand the arguments made both pro and con, but ultimately it is a shame that such a large chunk of the community playing this game feels not only willing to cheat but somehow entitled to cheat. via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2nvyQW7
