"The Event-based model is really good."

#PokemonGO: I know a lot of games have various events for seasons and holidays, but in PoGo, the events seem to not only be more frequent, but they drastically alter gameplay. And I love it. I think it's a great system, monetarily, for Niantic (when something is limited time, people are more likely to buy what they need), and it's a much more fun experience for players. Mainly, because we get goals. Sure, we all set goals as we play, be it to complete the Pokedex, control a lot of gyms, pick a themed team, etc. But the events give us some really good short term goals, and goals keep players interested. My goal (living in a mountain, very dry biome) was to get enough candy for 2 more Gyarados (I only had one because I visited Portland). I was finally able to evolve my perfect Magikarp, and in the end I even found a shiny (which I did meet my goal and evolved it as well). It just felt like I went out to hunt Pokemon with a purpose, rather than just the regular grind. I look forward to every event, and I think it's been the absolute best thing for them to do to retain players. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2nill7u
