"If you think Blissey is bad now...could have been MUCH worse"
#PokemonGO: Just some food for thought:Blissey is obviously a monster as-is, but it could have been much, MUCH worse - imagine if Blissey was not just Normal-type, but dual Normal/Fairy type.Blissey is a normal-type Pokemon, but it could have just as easily become a Normal/Fairy type Pokemon when Fairy was introduced. Players have noted that it shares many aesthetics and thematics with the Fairy type and many were even surprised when it was not added to Blissey with its introduction. In fact, the typing for Pokemon that were retroactively added to Fairy-type is somewhat arbitrary: of the original Gen I/II Pokemon evolution lines that filled the "fairy" archetype (and thus were candidates for receiving Fairy typing when it was introduced) - Wigglytuff, Clefable, and Blissey - Wigglytuff was turned into a dual Normal/Fairy, Clefable became pure Fairy, and Blissey remained pure NormalBut why does this matter?Consider the advantages/disadvantages of the Normal typing as it pertains to the current PoGo meta. Normal is weak only to Fighting and takes neutral damage from everything else (besides a resistance to Ghost) - clearly a strong defensive typing given how difficult it is to take advantage of. As-is, this means that the best counters to Blissey are Machamp, Dragonite, and Tyranitar, despite the fact that all 3 are varying degrees of weak to Blissey's movesets (and all are weak to its best charge move Dazzling Gleam). However, a dual Normal/Fairy typing would not only eliminate the weakness to Fighting, but would also add resistances to BOTH Dark and Dragon (and Bug, though less important). As a trade-off, the combination would only add weaknesses to Poison and Steel, neither of which are particularly potent offensive types in PoGo. To top it off, Dazzling Gleam, which is already super-effective against Blissey's best counters, would receive STAB bonus.TL;DR - if we were unfortunate enough for Blissey to be Normal/Fairy instead of just Normal, it would be even stronger against its (few) counters, while only adding weaknesses to types that by and large do not have strong attacking options. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2oQgKLa
