"645 million damage in one move, under Gen 7 rules"
The theorycrafting record for "most damage in a single move, under artifical conditions calling for the full cooperation of both sides" took a big blow across the 6->7 boundary, since Triple Battles no longer exist and so you can't take advantage of things like double Helping Hand at once on the big turn. We'll have to settle for doubles, but this should at least help to cushion the blow.Historically, these kinds of records have centered around Rock or Ice attacks, since Rollout 6 or Ice Ball 6 offer a higher base power than anything else. Especially after the last generation introduced Forest's Curse, Ice stands out for its ability to pick on a triple type weakness by grafting onto Noibat, Gligar, or Gible. Indeed, grafting both Forest's Curse and Dry Skin allowed Fire moves to stand alone by picking on a 10x type multiplier, and the new mechanics offer a possibly even more tempting target by changing Dry Skin into Fluffy for 16x, albeit only for non-contact moves. The problem there is that Fire just has underwhelming base power: the strongest you can get is Heat Crash on a minimized target with a large enough weight differential, which is worth 240 power, and even that's a contact move so it's stuck down at 10x for type instead of 16x. Among non-contact moves, you're stuck with Z-Blast Burn for 200, regular Blast Burn for 150 plus the freedom of an item slot, or on the physical side you'd have to go all the way down to Sacred Fire at 100. Compared to 960, that's a huge hole to have to dig out of, and one that those moves just don't have the firepower to do.As it turns out, there's something even better than all those Ice Ball shenanigans. Something that makes use of a new move that seems to be a clone of an existing move, but with one minor difference that allows it to work with a number of things that the original version couldn't. The setup is even compact enough to fit everything into a Battle Spot Doubles battle, using only 4 Pokemon a side instead of a potential 6.I'll go over the entire battle here, just so you can follow along and verify for yourself that everything going on is legal and accurate.TEAM ASmeargle @ Quick ClawAbility: Own TempoHardy Nature- Skill Swap- Electric Terrain- ElectrifyMedititeAbility: Pure PowerHardy Nature- Baton PassShuckleAbility: SturdyImpish NatureEVs: 252 Def- Power Trick- Power SplitWingullAbility: Keen EyeLonely NatureLevel: 2- Mimic- AgilityTEAM BPikachu @ Light BallAbility: StaticBrave NatureEVs: 252 Atk- Mimic- Agility- Tail Whip- ChargeToxicroakAbility: Poison TouchHardy Nature- Me First- AcupressurePrimeapeAbility: Vital SpiritHardy Nature- Power Trip- Screech- Sunny DayCherrimAbility: Flower GiftHardy Nature- Helping HandTHE BATTLETurn 1Toxicroak uses Me First, but it failsPikachu uses Mimic on Toxicroak, learning Me FirstSmeargle uses Skill Swap on Meditite, trading Own Tempo for Pure PowerMeditite uses Baton Pass and switches to ShuckleTurn 2Toxicroak uses Acupressure on Pikachu (doesn't really matter what it boosts, but preferably not speed; Pikachu has a raw Attack stat of 613 at +6 (so 2452), and Wingull has a raw Defense stat of 5 at -4 (1.66 gets rounded down to 1). On top of that, there's a whole slew of multipliers: 4 (double type weakness), 2 (Huge Power), 2 (Light Ball), 2 (Charge), 1.5 (STAB), 1.5 (Electric Terrain), 1.5 (Helping Hand), 1.5 (Flower Gift in Sun), 1.5 (Me First), and 1.5 (critical hit). If you get the peak damage roll so as not to lose anything, that should deal...645,647,940Anyone want some fried duckling? via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2qp2idh
