"[Idea] Move Master Challenges"

#PokemonGO: Subject of bad moves, Fear of Evolution and idea of re-rolling movesets has been discussed to death both in this subreddit and in r/PokemonGO. We've all been there, finally found the chosen one, got stunned by incredible hatch or sudden nest surprise only to be really disappointed by the moveset after the evolution. It doesn't matter if one's hardcore player powering up only 90+ IV Pokemon or just Gym battling enthusiast who wants useful moves for their creatures.I've read many ideas here and there, f.ex:heart scales dropped from Pokestops,TMs dropped from Pokestops, random re-roll with candy cost, controlled re-roll with candy cost,re-roll after certain amount of Gym battles. All these have their fans and both positive and negative aspects but we can all agree - as cool as they may look, there is always risk that they will be abused by cheaters or players living in specific area (f.ex. having more Pokestops or Gyms). I didn't see many details about preventing that and introducing system which would be most fair for everyone. Since my previous thread about defending movesets got really interesting responses, I decided to share this with TSR.So, I have an idea which except letting players to lift RNG curse will also help the game in big way.First, one thing has to be said - PoGO is addicting grind game, but lacks depth and specific end goals (or goals in particular). Yes, completing all medals or reaching level 40 are some kind of goals but I don't find them really motivating or rewarding. For many players the individual goal is just to get good Pokemon and there are 3 factors limiting it:IV distribution: this one should be left like it is. Game needs this kind of rarity to let those who hunt for high IV Pokemon cherish them even more.Species distribution: lately events help a lot with this and in theory you only need one good hatch and candies needed for evolution will be acquired by buddy walking.Movesets lottery: honestly, when I read about people evolving same Pokemon 10 times and still not getting moves they want I'm getting really demotivated... There are also great analysis threads made by TSR Travellers which show how much it can take to get good moveset and the probabilities are often looking insane...The system I would like to see in GO would be new NPC who would get its own icon accessible from the menu any time. Let me introduce you to Move Master. His goal in GO would be giving players specific challenge to do in order to let one chosen Pokemon learn specific move.Basics:MM challenge would be a monthly quest. No shortcuts, no easy ways for cheaters, no area advantages. At the start, MM would greet you with 5 moves batch to choose from f.ex. Hydro Pump, Body Slam, Ice Beam, Earthquake and Shadow Ball. You may choose only one and start the quest. As soon as you choose the move, you can't change it for 28 days (4 weeks). Moves are refreshed every week so if you don't see any move interesting for your battlers, all you have to do is wait few days for new batch. Moves in next batch can't be repeated from batch to batch so you won't get Ancient Power and Steel Wing 3 times in a row. Batches contain the same moves for every player, no RNG involved.Challenge Buddy:When you choose the move, you get the list of your Pokemon which may learn it. Moves should be available for any Pokemon which could learn them in main games (via breeding or TMs), f.ex. Dragonite and Blastoise could learn Blizzard, Magneton could learn Thunder and so on. Then you decide which one you want and it becomes your Challenge Buddy for a month. CB gathers species candy as normal buddy but there's a catch - you can't change it or you will fail the challenge.Challenge daily activities:Every day of your challenge you will be given certain amount of quests to complete, which f.ex. would be:Capture 5-10 Pokemon,Capture 5 Pokemon with Great throws,Spin 5-10 Pokestops,Walk 1km,Everytime you complete all daily quests you get special Challenge Candy. You may gather 28 CCs during your whole challenge, but you only need 25 to succeed - which allows people to skip some days when f.ex. they can't play.Challenge monthly activities:I bet some Travellers already thought - Pfff, these are too easy, where is the challenge?? - while reading above. Don't worry. There are also monthly tasks which may be completed anytime during these 28 days. Those f .ex. would be:Catch 100 Pokemon,Catch 10 Pokemon of same specie,Spin Pokestops 50 times,Evolve 5 Pokemon,Power up 5 Pokemon,Defeat 3-5 Pokemon in Gym with your Challenge Buddy,Hatch 5 eggs.Completing these quests is crucial to finishing your whole challenge. I chose them all as things doable in my small town as quests shouldn't be manageable only in big cities.Pay off:After reaching your 28 day, MM checks if you finished all monthly quests and how many Challenge Candies you gathered. When you succeeded, your Pokemon is taught the move and you are now a proud owner of good battler which was saved from oblivion by your hard work and effort - not just going to the nest, gathering 200 candy and tapping re-roll button over and over. Meanwhile, the game suddenly got more fun and even if you may think - proposed activities are boring, come on - you would do them anyway and now you have incentive to do them for a purpose and goal to reach which won't rely on any RNG.MM Challenge isn't a system which can be abused. You can't complete it in a day or week. You can't affect move batches and get Outrage all the time. I know it may seem too complicated for casual players but let's agree on something - we have dedicated playerbase to work everything out and create helpful threads for confused ones. I also think new move options would encourage discussions, experience sharing and revitalise battle system overall - all this with just a simple feature.I know that Niantic is aware of the movesets lottery problem and they will probably invent something on their own in the end but I would love to see it handled in at least similar way as I described. Since we have Niantic's representatives on reddit now, I'd like to say - just give us clear goals and let us be SATISFIED with your awesome game.If anybody has any feedback about my idea, I will gladly read it. Is it too complicated or too easy? I'm curious what fellow GOers think about it. I know there are people who oppose any idea of affecting movesets, but I simply want fun and more things depending from the players and their actions, that's all. Thanks for reading!TL;DR: Movesets re-rolls should be implemented as a monthly quest system which let you complete certain tasks with chosen Pokemon and let it learn certain move after 28 days. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2qCokMS
