"Introduction of the Trainer Tower in Pokemon Go..."

#PokemonGO: Hey guys,Tl;dr: Trainer Towers could provide trainers (especially rural and lower-level players) with the opportunity to battle all sorts of pokemon and receive rewards that could otherwise be difficult to attain. Towers would also reduce a dead gym meta that consists of only the 7 defenders. It is very obvious that no one is happy with the current gym setup and with a rework coming soon we all have a lot to look forward to. However, one of the bigger issues with the current (and possibly future) gym setup is that lower level/rural players have little to contribute in the community. I am a level 31 player who has only recently seen my best pokes managing to stay in gyms and am still barely able to stay in more than 2 gyms at a time. This is where the introduction of Trainer Towers could benefit lower level players and create a less stagnant meta. For those who may not be familiar with the original games, the Trainer Tower "can be challenged in a variety of different battle types consecutively over a number of floors to reach the top". What was unique about the Trainer Tower was that "the level of the Pokémon used by trainers will also match the player's highest-leveled Pokémon". (source: Wiki). This meant that your level 100 Machamp could be countered by a level 100 Alakazam and this added increased challenge to trainers in a way that gyms did not (as you could not simply overlevel to counter a type-disadvantage).I understand that Niantic and TPC do not want to go into the same depth as the original series, but with the introduction of Trainer Towers, lower level players could find themselves on a level standing with their opponents. So here's my idea...Towers would appear at set intervals (ie. once a week, at completion of a successful challenge or raid, etc.)Towers would introduce battles against set Trainers according to a pokemon level (or CP) chosen by the player. For example, I could choose a team of the following 6 pokemon.CP 2498 FlareonCP 2422 MachampCP 2380 VaporeonCP 2320 SnorlaxCP 2213 GengarCP 2208 GyaradosThis would mean that the set Trainers that I would face would have pokemon at CP 2498 (equal to my highest levelled pokemon).Set Trainers would have 1-2 Pokemon and there would be anywhere between 4-8 Trainers in a towers.Players would have a chance to use recovery items such as revives and potions between battles, but would not be allowed to switch pokemon out for other pokemon.Towers could be based on specific types of pokemon, however it would not be a necessity as players would not be placing pokemon in towers (this avoids the gym stagnation of the Big 7 defenders). This means that set Trainers would increase diversity of defending pokemon and could challenge players to use lower CP 'mons that otherwise would not be seen in gyms.Players would receive rewards based on their successes in the towers0 trainers defeated = 0 reward1 trainer defeated = 500 Stardust + XP2 trainers defeated = 1000 Stardust + XP3 trainers defeated = 2000 Stardust + XPEtc. etc.All trainers defeated = Rare Item (ie. Evolution Item, Heart Scale/TM, etc.)A rewards system such as this provides incentive to complete the entirety of a tower and for rural and low-level players, also provides an opportunity to receive items that can otherwise be difficult to attain. One of the most important parts about trainer towers is that they would liven up a stagnant meta that consists of only 5-7 desirable pokemon. It could provide trainers with the opportunity to use lower CP pokemon like your favourite starter pokemon (ahem, Blastoise) or even Shuckle, who are otherwise just pokedex entries and trophies at the moment.Trainer Towers would not be a replacement for gyms as they would not always be available, but would create an ongoing challenge for players to look forward to.I've had this idea in my head for a little while, but this is the first time I've sat down and written it out. I'd love to hear about whether you guys think this kind of thing could be beneficial for the game. As much as I love catching Pidgey's and Zubat's, I think that this could really improve the overall game and bring back some of the more casual players. Thanks for being such an awesome community to be a part of!! via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2r2Rypc
