"In-Depth Regional Exclusive Speculation"
#PokemonGO: With the probability of Gen 3 looming and the current down time between new content, I thought I would take some time to look at the regional Pokemon in order to attempt to predict the regionals in Generations 3-7.I obviously have zero inside information and this whole post will be purely conjecture, but let's have some fun and dive in!First a few slightly relevant predictions-I believe (and honestly hope) that Niantic will NEVER relinquish the regional status of Pokemon designated as such. Early in the game's life I thought that maybe Pokemon would start off as regional then get more common in other areas as more generations were released. I think most of this hope was because I really didn't like the idea of being unable to fill a Pokedex, but I think it's a cool way to make sure most players ALWAYS have something left to do.I'm guessing Gen 3 will drop around Halloween. Gen 2 dropped 7 months after the release, and Halloween is about the same distance away from the second generation release. I think it would be a KILLER marketing and retention move to have another Halloween event and then drop an entire new generation the following week once people have picked up the game a little more.Okay, now let's get into the existing regional pokemon and look at what they have in common as well as why they're exclusive to the region where you can find them.Farfetch'd - Japan - The legend of the duck with the onion leek.Tauros - North America - Based on the North American BuffaloMr. Mime - Europe - Mimes originated in GreeceKangaskhan- Australia/Oceania - Kangaskhan is based on the Kangaroo, which are found in AustraliaHeracross - South America - Roughly based on the Hercules Beetle, which is found in Central and South AmericaCorsola - "Tropical" areas. More specifically 31°N and 26°S - 410 - Found (almost to the degree) where coral lives in the real world. http://ift.tt/2qVxPZo MAP gives a helpful visual representation of where each can be found. The similarities may seem obvious, but for the sake of dissection, let's review them. All of the Pokemon:Are the only Pokemon in their evolution chain other than babies (Megas don't count.)Have base stats of 500 or lower. Are not Game-Version dependent in their original games. Are not park of a "set" i.e. Pokemon who are not in an evolution chain together, but clearly are designed to go together. Are relatively rare in their original games, sometimes including gimmicky circumstances for acquiring them.Have good reasons for being linked to the region in which you can find them.I think it's safe to assume that the formula will not change drastically so now that we have that list let's start to create a compendium of pokemon, starting with my first point. The following pokemon are pokemon who are alone in their evolution chain (again megas don't count, but cross-gen evolutions do!) If they are going to be removed due to the second, third, or fourth rules, I'll annotate why. I'm also going to eliminate Pikachu clonesGEN 3Sableye - Version ExclusiveMawile - Version ExclusivePlusle - Part of a setMinun - Part of a setVolbeat - Part of a setIllumise - Part of a setTorkoalSpindaZangoose - Version exclusive, Part of a setSeviper - Version exclusive, Part of a setLunatone - Version Exclusive, Part of a setSolrock - Version Exclusive, Part of a setCastformKecleonTropiusAbsolRelicanthLuvdiscGen 4Pachirisu - Pikachu CloneChatotSpiritombCarnivineGen 5AudinoThroh - Part of a setSawk - Part of a setMaractusSigilyphEmolga - Pikachu CloneAlomomolaCryogonal - Base Stats too highStunfiskDruddigonBouffalantHeatmor - Part of a setDurant - Part of a setGen 6FurfrouHawluchaDedenne - Pikachu CloneCarbink - Part of a set (I include Diancie)KlefkiGen 7OricorioComfeyOranguru - Part of a setPassimian - Part of a setPyukumukuMiniorKomalaTurtonatorTogedemaru - Pikachu CloneMimikyu - Pikachu CloneBruxishDrampaDhelmise - Base Stats Too High(COUNTING ULTRA BEASTS AS LEGENDARY FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS LIST)Well, that was comprehensive! Some of these guesses depend on how small Niantic is willing to make the regions:Torkoal - The region that would make the most sense would be the Galapagos Islands, however all of the Pacific Islands would probably be reasonable.Spinda - As the first Panda Pokemon, Spinda would make sense as a regional exclusive to China. Currently, however, China has banned Pokemon Go, so if it were to be an exclusive, it would make more sense to be exclusive to all of Asia.Castform - I doubt this will be a regional exclusive, as it doesn't really have a specific area it could be tied to.Tropius - Definitely a tropical potential. Could join in Corsola's area or be local to Rainforests and Jungles.Absol - Based on the Bai Ze, an ancient Chinese mythical beast. Like the Spinda, the logical place would be China, though this one would make more sense to expand to all of Asia.Relicanth - Based on the Coelacanth, an ancient fish found on the coast of Africa. Obviously would make sense to be found in Africa.Luvdisc - Based on the Kissing Gourami, which is indigenous to Thailand. It's doubtful that this'll be a regional exclusive. My best guess for the third generation would be Torkoal in the Pacific Islands, Absol in Asia, and Relicanth in Africa.Generation 4 breakdown-Chatot - Chatot is most closely based on a Parakeet, so it would be logical to be an Australia exclusive.Spiritomb - I can't imagine a good location for this to be an exclusive of.Carnivine - Carnivine is a Venus Fly Trap, so it would be another exclusive for North America. My best guess for Gen 4 would be Chatot in Australia and Carnivine in North America.Generation 5 breakdown-Audino - Audino seems more like an amalgamation of many animals/insects and I doubt it will be a region exclusive.Maractus - Based on the Prickly Pear Cactus, so a southern USA/Mexico region would make sense.Sigilyph - Based on Nazca Lines, which are found in Peru. Other origins can be found in North America. I could see it being a Region Exclusive to North and South America.Alomomola - Another tropical Pokemon who may be found where Corsola currently can be found.Stunfisk - Stunfisk is a flounder so I can't really see it being regional.Druddigon - Druddigon is based on the Agama, so it could possibly be an exclusive to Africa.Bouffalant - Another Pokemon based on the North American Bison, so a North America exclusive is probable. My best guesses for Fifth Gen would be Druddigon in Africa, Bouffalant in North America, and Sigilyph in South America.Generation 6 breakdown-Furfrou - Furfrou is based on the Poodle, so it would be a good option for an exclusive to Europe.Hawlucha - Based on Mexican wrestling and the Resplendant Quetzal, also native to Mexico. This could be a good option for a Central America exclusive.Klefki - It's based on keys. Everyone has keys. No regional exclusive here.Guess for Generation Six would be Furfrou in Europe and Hawlucha in Central America (Mexico to Panama.)Generation 7 breakdown (Disclaimer: Most of the pokemon in this generation are based heavily on Hawaii, so a ton of them are going to default to that)-Oricorio - Seems to be based on the Honeycreeper, a bird native to Hawaii so that would make a lot of sense as a region.Comfey - Comfey is a Lei so, again, Hawaii would be a logical choice!Pyukumuku - They are Sea Cucumbers which are found in the oceans. If it's an exclusive, I could see it being all over the oceans- though I don't know how much pokemon spawn out to sea.Minior - Unless we can get Pokemon Go on Mars, I doubt this will be an exclusive.Komala - Based on a Koala, so another obvious Australia regional choice.Turtonator - Possibly based on the Mata Mata, found in South America. It could possibly be a choice for a South America exclusive.Bruxish - Based on the Filefish which is found in similar locations to Coral Reefs so it could possibly be spawned in a similar area to Corsola.Drampa - It's a Dragon Grampa. No region. My best guess for Gen 7 would be Comfey in Hawai'i and Komala in Australia/Oceania.While I have your attention, I want to bring up several pokemon that could have similar mechanics to the regional exclusive pokemon by having regional exclusive forms.Burmy/WormadamShellos/GastrodonDeerling/SawsbuckVivillonOricorioIt's also possible that Castform forms could depend on your local weather but that seems like it could take a LOT of resources for one Pokemon that, let's face it, is kind of a dud...So there are my predictions! I know it was long-winded but I wanted to be thorough! What do you all think?Edit: Formatting Edit 2: STUPID HOMOPHONES via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2sbC7fc
