"Tactical Preparation for July 22 / Go Fest Events"

#PokemonGO: Now that we have more information on the local and global challenges happening July 22, I would like to start a conversation on tactical planning so we as a community can maximize our rewards. Below are my thoughts, but I would love it if people commented with more thoughts. I'll try to update the post to incorporate new ideas.World WideThe goal of World Wide players is to catch as many pokemon as possible, regardless of type.Lures and incense are definitely useful here. Try organizing lure parties in popular places with many spawns.Know your easy to catch pokemon to seek them out and their nests. From This Post by u/Spidertotz, we know the highest base capture rate is for Magikarp, then Oddish, then a 48 way tie between Caterpie, Weedle, Pidgey, Rattata, Spearow, Ekans, Sandshrew, Nidoran♀, Nidoran♂, Jigglypuff, Zubat, Venonat, Diglett, Meowth, Psyduck, Mankey, Poliwag, Abra, Machop, Bellsprout, Tentacool, Geodude, Slowpoke, Magnemite, Doduo, Seel, Grimer, Shellder, Drowzee, Krabby, Voltorb, Exeggcute, Koffing, Rhyhorn, Horsea, Goldeen, Staryu, Sentret, Hoothoot, Ledyba, Spinarak, Mareep, Maril, Hoppip, Sunkern, Teddiursa, Remoraid, and Phanpy. Nests for these guys will be very useful places to catch and lure, and these mons should be priortized over others in range of you.Grant ParkWhile it is not entirely clear whether the 6 reward types will be mutually exclusive or each reward will have its own tiers independent of each other, I will assume the latter. The main reason for this assumption is "Whichever type is caught the most determines the reward" presents little in tactical analysis, seeing as we all just want to catch a lot of whatever type corresponds to the reward we like best (probably grass type for stardust). I'm hoping the exact number of catches needed for each type for each tier of reward will be announced day of (or earlier). It'll be even better if Niantic announces progress in between challenge windows. Therefore, my chief concern is overshooting a reward gold tier. If we all agree that, say, the stardust reward from catching grass types is the best reward, and it takes 500,000 catches (a made up number) to get the maximum reward, and we catch 700,000 grass types, those extra 200,000 grass types mean balls that could have been spent on other types. To counteract this, I propose a rough divide and conquer approach to maximize getting the most rewards of the best types. We could do this by separating type priority by team. My best guess is that there will be more mystics than valors than instincts in attendence due to worldwide stats and performances in previous events, but the differences will be less small due to the cross section of who devotes funds to go fest. I also assume that the first catch window will have slightly fewer participating trainers due to latecomers. For example:Catch Window 1 (11-11:30am): Valor focuses on Grass types, Mystic focuses on Water types, Instinct focuses on Fire types, everyone focuses on Normal types as a secondary priority.Catch Window 2 (12-12:30pm): Mystic focuses on Grass types, Valor focuses on Normal Types, Instinct focuses on Fire types, everyone focuses on Rock types as a secondary priority.Catch Window 3 (3pm-3:30pm): Everyone focuses on whatever nice rewards we are lacking in.My reasoning here is based on a) Stardust bonus seems to be what the most people are most excited for, and thus should be a priority b) encounter rate increases, stardust bonus, XP bonus, and candy bonus all synergize with each other, making it easy to maximize benefit from all four simultaneously and c) If the "mystery challenge" indeed releases legendaries as many speculate, a buddy distance bonus will be nice for people wanting to power up their new level 20 legendaries. Let me know in the comments how you think Go Fest attendees should prioritize rewards, and how that should translate to a divide and conquer scheme, if any.EDIT: An alternate method, proposed by u/Neferpitou123, is to just divvy up priorities based on the window, eg Window 1: Grass, Window 2: Fire, Window 3: Lightning/ Normal/ WaterParting thoughts: Every trainer will be able to participate in one of two separate yet linked events: the challenges for Go Fest attendees and the challenges for the rest of the world. Regardless of which of these events you are attending, please feel free contribute your thoughts for both or either. The more people contributing ideas, the better our collective genius. Also, all strategies discussed on this thread are ways people can voluntarily go above and beyond in maximizing their contribution. As such, they should never be used to shame or exclude trainers who don't want to follow them. The important thing is to have fun! via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2v1Q0LA
