"For those experiencing 'Raid Fatigue', I suggest transitioning to a 'Free-To-Play' mindset for a couple of weeks"

#PokemonGO: After reading a few threads about raid fatigue and burnout from too many legendary raids, I understand why everyone isn't as excited as they should be given the extended legendary timeline. Niantic fostered a false sense of urgency for each of the legendary birds, so everyone spent an enormous amount of time and energy to reap as many benefits from those weekly releases as they could.Niantic extending the timelines felt bittersweet; it's great that we get more time to catch the birds, but it also stirred up a lot of combative, "Well if I knew that" sentiments. It's almost genius from a marketing perspective, but the player base feels tired and unmotivated to continue the grind during the upcoming weeks.I feel this is a perfect time for the player base to recharge their batteries, both mentally and physically. We should be analyzing our motivations to participate in legendary raids and why these upcoming weeks should feel much different from the first wave:To complete your Pokedex: If you're fatigued from raiding, I would assume that you've caught one of each of the birds at this point. To acquire high IV catches: I can see this as the primary motivator for people to go out and keep trying. The allure of having a 90%+ IV legendary sounds appealing, but once you think about the RNG discrepancy between using 7 free raid passes and 25 of them, the chase doesn't feel as worth. For example, you only have a 9.32% chance to get a 100% raid boss after 25 catches. That doesn't even include missed attempts. To acquire raid rewards (rare candies, TMs): Legendary raids aren't going away any time soon, given the upcoming gen 2 releases and the inevitable gen 3+ introductions. Tier 4 raid bosses also give somewhat comparable rewards. The social experience: While raids were a great way to create and bolster friendships within your local Pogo community, that energy can be spent elsewhere too. Organize a walk through your favorite catching spots, especially given the stardust shortages as of late. The whole raid experience can be frustrating due to waiting times and only having a 7 minute gameplay experience compared to large amounts of coordination and travel time. A change of gameplay/scenery might revitalize your gaming interest and rewire your first impressions of your local player base.To sum most of the sentiments up, there is this looming FOMO (fear of missing out) that shouldn't be plaguing our minds during this upcoming time of legendary birds. Most of us have gotten what we wanted already, and any incremental gains after the first wave might not be worth it.I suggest taking some time to yourself and reflecting on what makes the game fun for you. Trying a Free-To-Play mindset might help to settle some of the unnecessary stress surrounding the legendary release. Taking the opportunities to raid as they come (daily, and one more every 2 days given gym income) has helped me significantly reduce any amount of anxiety and FOMO feelings attributed to raids. Obviously there is not a 'one-size-fits-all' solution, but now is a great time to take it a bit slower than usual and find what works for you as a dedicated Pokémon Go fan. Thanks for reading and reflecting! via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2hYUoIB
