"[Story] Our first legendary raid"
#PokemonGO: So last night I'm coming home from work, and pass by the neighborhood park that has a stop and a gym. And I see about a dozen people grouped around the park sign that the gym is pinned to. Sure enough, after I pull into the garage and bring up PoGo, there's a Zapdos hovering over it.So I ask my wife if our 5 year old son can borrow her phone (what he's been using for Pokemon) so we can go see something cool. She says yes, and he and I walk the block over to the park. We've got good timing, there's about ten trainers still organizing up. We find out that they're waiting for a few more friends, but sure, they have room for a couple more.Son is very extroverted, and starts chatting up a guy, who helps him get into the private group they've set up and put in the code. This fortunately lets me avoid the awkward question: "Um....which one's Bulbasaur?" :) I never played the original games, so I'm still learning my identification. I hadn't encountered that particular one yet.A little later, everyone's set up and the battle begins! My little guy is tapping furiously, and at one point calls out "I'm spamming!" (since he was told to just "spam quick attacks"). I'm doing the same, occasionally surviving long enough to get in a charge attack. We both have our team's faint, and rejoin with a new set of six. Zapdos eventually gets defeated, and we get our premiere balls to try to catch it. I keep trying to explain to my son about using the razz's so it'll be less likely to break free, but he's just spinning balls at it.Neither of us end up snagging the bird, but another little boy in the raid group did. This was our first time really interacting with other players in the game, and I couldn't have asked for a nicer bunch of trainers. via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2vIyoaK
