"The dangers of reporting players"

#PokemonGO: My wife and I are very active players in our little town, with a very unique and recognisable nick name. Let's say mine is "Baumgartner", then hers would be "MrsBaumgartner"Yesterday we saw, someone of the opponent's team created a player called "WhoreBaumgartner" and  put it in a gym we used to fight down on a daily basis.I reported this user and so did my wife and many others of our raid group (no matter, what colour they are)This morning and to my surprise I noticed, that this player had a new nick and the following E-Mail was sent to me, by niantic:...........................Hallo,Thank you for your report. You did the right thing by bringing this to our attention. After reviewing the nickname you reported, we’ve decided to remove it from the game. This player will be required to choose a new Trainer nickname the next time they sign into Pokémon GO.We appreciate your help in keeping Pokémon GO fun for everyone.DankeMason Niantic Support...........................Now, where's the problem you may ask, everything worked out, huh?Well, for some reason they changed my own nickname to a string of numbers and I will be ask to choose a nickname right after starting PoGo. My wife's account is still ok, and so are those of the other players who reported the culprit. Now when I try to enter my original nickname the app tells me I have to choose another nick, as the old one is not available.I tried to contact niantic by replying to their mail, but nothing happened. So what do we learn about it? If you want to report a players offensive name, you might lose your own one................tl;dr: Reported an offensive nickname, got my own non-offensive nickname robbed by niantic.Edit: To add to the "fun": The player now renamed himself back to smth like "BaumgartnerWhore". Great how everything worked out and not only i got punished, but my wife is still being called a whore by the same player that got initially reported in the hopes to stop him from doing it...Edit 2:/u/Nianticgeorge /u/nianticindigoIt would be nice, if you could throw in your 2 cents via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2vlKrcY
