"How misleading communication could result in wrongly allocating valuable ingame and real life resources - example EX raids"
#PokemonGO: This has been the path of communication about EX raids so far. Sources in full text can be found below. On 14th August Niantic released an article about Exclusive Raids featuring Mewtwo [1]. They stated, that already thousands of people had caught Mewtwo in Yokohama. Allegedly in the coming weeks I would have had the same opportunity to fight and catch Mewtwo in an exclusive raid. As an invitation criterion a successfully completed raid at the exclusive raid location must have been done recently. A similarly phrased article was released the same day on the Pokemon website [2]. However, this article also included advice to keep battling legendary birds while waiting for the opportunity to catch Mewtwo, implying that these raids would be beneficial for receiving an exclusive raid invitation. On 31th August Niantic released another article. It was about the legendary dogs being released [3], instead of releasing Mewtwo for exclusive raids as everyone suspected from the formerly given information. Instead they renamed the exclusive raids to EX raids and started a field-testing phase at select gyms before making it globally available. Almost 8 weeks after the first note most players have not received an invitation to EX Raids, shifting the time period since most of the players heavily frequented legendary raids further away from the “recently”, which is supposed to be a few weeks according to Niantics exclusive raids website [4]. One could say that a few weeks are ample of time to conduct enough raids to increase chances of an invitation. However, as the period between announcement and actual release increases, the probability that your legendary bird raids fall into the invitation period decreases. Currently temperatures are dropping quickly in the Northern hemisphere. The uncomfortable waiting time at raids makes it harder and harder to find enough people to complete a legendary raid. Was it wise to spend valuable Premium raid passes on multiple legendary birds? People have trouble finding worthwhile raids for the free raid passes and I am lucky enough to be able to solo some Tier 3 raid bosses (in case I can find one in my free time). Lower level players have to settle for unrewarding Tier 2 raid bosses in order not to miss out on a small reward or tediously organize a group for the xth Suicune. "Exclusive raids will periodically appear at Gyms around the world." [1] This sentence could indicate we have just cycled out of the period and may be lucky enough to get a Mewtwo raid next spring, too. ConclusionsBesides all the vague information, there have been many misleading clues that left players in a void and made them spend valuable raid passes and time on unrewarding raids. This allocation of scarce ingame resources and real life resources (time and money) would have been different for most players if they had known that the expected benefit will not be received in the near future (if at all). Mewtwo Coming to Exclusive Raid Battles Soon!http://ift.tt/2vUkaTX Earlier today, Trainers battled against the Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo at the Pokémon GO Stadium event in Yokohama, Japan. Thousands of Trainers in attendance were able to successfully catch Mewtwo and add it to their Pokédexes. In the coming weeks, you, too, will have the opportunity to battle and catch Mewtwo with the new Exclusive Raid Battle feature.Exclusive Raid Battles are similar to existing Raid Battles, with a few notable differences. Exclusive raids will periodically appear at Gyms around the world; however, unlike existing raids, Trainers will be invited to join an Exclusive Raid Battle. To receive an invitation to participate in an Exclusive Raid Battle, Trainers must have successfully completed a raid recently, by defeating the Raid Boss, at the Gym where the Exclusive Raid Battle will be taking place. The invitations will include advance warning of when the Exclusive Raid will take place, giving them ample time to coordinate with other Trainers before taking on the powerful Raid Boss.Mewtwo is the first Pokémon that Trainers will be able to face in Exclusive Raid Battles, but other powerful Pokémon may also start to hatch from the Raid Eggs found at Exclusive Raid Battles over the next several weeks. Make sure you’re prepared to battle Mewtwo by powering up your Pokémon and battling in raids at Gyms near you! [2] 14 Aug 2017. Legendary Pokémon Raikou, Entei, and Suicune and an EX Raid Battle Field Test Coming Soon. http://ift.tt/2vIe4Tm While these Legendary Pokémon are traveling the world, we’ll also begin an EX Raid Battle (formerly Exclusive Raid Battle) field-testing phase at select Gyms before the feature is made available globally. We have collected some valuable early feedback on the new EX Raid Battle feature and will look to further test and hone the experience through the feedback of the dedicated global Trainer community. During the field test, we’ll be making periodic adjustments to EX Raid eligibility requirements, frequency, times, locations, and durations with the goal of making the EX Raid Battle feature engaging, rewarding, and most importantly, fun for Trainers who regularly participate in Raid Battles. The first EX Raid Passes will be sent out soon, and those invited will have an opportunity to try out the new system as early as September 6. Stay tuned for more updates as we launch the EX Raid Battle field test to more Gyms in the weeks ahead. We look forward to reading all your constructive feedback on our social media channels and encourage you to continue share your thoughts throughout the EX Raid Battle field test!
