"[Story] Yesterday Pokémon Go helped me through a really tough day."
#PokemonGO: Yesterday started out pretty amazingly. I was back at my university to visit friends and we had a fun time the night before. No hangover, a good nights sleep, and the CVS in town had the special anti-frizz stuff I like to put in my hair but haven’t been able to find recently. As I was leaving CVS, I checked Facebook one last time before making the hour+ drive home to discover that a very close family friend had lost a personal battle with depression. My bright day quickly darkened. This person was my own Patch Adams, not only was he a doctor but he specialized in pediatric medicine. Specifically he was the chief of pediatric rehabilitation at the hospital. I had never known him to not have a smile on his face. So basically I spent the entire ride home crying. (Pokémon Go coming I swear...)Once home I got a text from two friends asking me to raid for Entei with them as he’s just arrived in the America’s. I agree to go because I feel like it’s probably better to not sit in my room and cry alone. We head out around 4pm giving us plenty of time to raid. And with 3 people in a pretty active PoGo community we weren’t too worried about finding others. Enter our first Entei raid, and somehow I was lucky enough to catch him on the second ball, my day starts looking a little less dim.We find another raid nearby and we head over. The raid is next to a lake great for catching magikarp and the occasional dratini. I keep imagining one of these days I’ll get a shiny because that’s my ultimate goal in this game. Lo and behold, I catch my first shiny magikarp! OMG how can this be happening!? It feels like a cosmic joke. Somehow this intangible reward has helped me lift out of a day full of tears.Lastly we finish our second Entei raid with my phone at 6% battery and dropping. My friends and I all manage to catch him. Mine is 90%. Wow. Phone dies on 2 minute walk back to the car but I don’t care.Thank you Pokémon Go. Thank you for getting my out of the house and bringing me joy in the smallest of ways. Thank you for being a distraction but also for bringing people together. Thank you.TLDR: friend died, played pogo to cope, caught 2 entei and first shiny magikarp, day not as shitty as expected. via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2xRXfsD
