"An Interesting Detail in Animation in X and Y that says a lot"
I recently fired up my Y version to give it a run since I've only beaten the game once before moving onto ORAS. I have always had trouble with the game because of how annoyed I am by all of your forced "Friends" at the beginning but I got through it, and I'm glad I did because near the end of the game I noticed one small little detail, one tiny thing that spoke volumes from a narrative standpoint and I thought I'd mention it here because it seems so easy to miss.As most know, every game your character is pretty cookie cutter, never showing much emotion and kinda just being in the middle of chaos. You might as well just be a wandering group of 6 pokemon solving the regions problems with how little the PC gets development. But, as I finished up the Team Flare nonsense, I saw something that really hit me.Upon defeating Lysandre for the final time, and stopping his crazy plans, your character doesn't do the simple fist pump of success animation.Instead, he/she places a hand over their chest, and breathes a sigh of relief. No big smile, no victorious grin, just pure relief for one small frame of animation. And I think this says a lot with something so small. It shows a side we really never get to see from our own Player characters, there were a few moments like this in ORAS when dealing with MagmAqua but nothing like this I thought. Because it shows a brief moment of reality, where you have to remember you aren't some crazy hero riding in to save the day, you're just one kid who has now got the weight of the world on your shoulders. And when you win, you aren't grinning and fist pumping, you are relieved, it just made the PC in that moment seem so much more human than in games prior.Anyways, just thought I'd share and say I'm happy I came back to this game. I still am pretty 50/50 on my enjoyment of X and Y, but this small detail made me happy I came gave it another chance.EDIT: I went looking on Youtube for a video to show of it in case people didn't feel like playing the entire game for an animation lol but from what I've seen this animation DOESN'T Occur with Male characters (Or atleast I haven't seen any video do it, and the only difference was my character was a girl)EDIT 2: I found a video with Female Protag and will link below, it seems that this animation only plays when playing a female character, interesting... I wonder if any other in game animations are different?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7hF6A-hQpU via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2hD4wUD
