"(MAJOR SPOILERS)Discussing a theory of mine regarding USUM and UB: Gluttony"
This is going to get wordy, so bear with me, I'll have a tl;dr at the very end for the impatient types. So for anyone unaware, in USUM, you're able to go to the original home dimension of the original 7 Ultra Beasts and capture them, each with a colorful and unique home. From Nihilego and its location from the original Sun and Moon, to Buzzwole in a jungle of FLEXING MUSCULAR TREES, to an entirely different dimension where humans and Kartana live side by side without the use of Poke-Balls....this is amazing and insane! Okay, cool! So how about Guzzlord's home world? I bet it's full of food or something, right?Well, that's where things get.....DARK, to say the least. When you enter Guzzlord's world, you're spit out inside of a building with a man in a hazmat suit, and when you step outside, it's, well... it's not pretty. You're met with music that seems like it'd fit in a creepypasta and a dark red and orange sky hangs over your head, with rubble and just ruin all around you... These are the Ultra Ruins.... but hey, first off, let's analyze that music.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yoqCVqVWsc&I told you, straight out of a creepypasta, huh? The music sounds, distorted, reversed even... In fact, let's play the music forward and see what ha---https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lYpFfK7-rU......well....... there's no mistaking that....THAT....THAT right there.... is Hau'oli City..... Wait, so does that mean that the Ultra Ruins are.....Hau'oli City?Well... yes. In this world, Hau'oli City is post-apocalyptic. But, how?Well, looking around, you find a poster for an energy company, and when you go back to the man and ask him about it, his response is:"You noticed that poster, did you? I found it buried in the rubble and decided to put it up. The people from my grandparents' generation burned most of them, so they're hard to find! Whenever I brought up the power plant, it seemed like the adults didn't want to hear about it, but I like that poster. It's cheerful."So from this answer, it seems like a power plant is most definitely to blame for this apocalypse. Though we're unsure if it's the one actually in-game, though if this is indeed an alternate Hau'oli Island, it very well may be.But then, how, and why?The most common theory I've seen is that some form of Nuclear meltdown, or the Pokemon world's equivalent to it, happened, and people retreated.... Where to? Well don't worry, because Hazmat guy has the answer, when asked about what Guzzlord eats:"They have a huge appetite, so we couldn't take them to the other planets... Oh! Please don't mess with Mr. Glutton's food out back."....Other planets? That's right. After the apocalyptic event of whatever happened at the Power Plant, both people and Pokemon escaped into OUTER SPACE and began living on OTHER PLANETS, while leaving the Guzzlord behind. Now here is where the theories I've seen other people make up begin.A lot, and I mean a LOT of people believe that Guzzlord is basically this Alola's version of Wall-E, basically staying behind and cleaning up the planet, so that one day people and Pokemon can return, but....I disagree 100% with this claim, and once again, it's due to what Mr.Hazmat guy says when questioned about Guzzlord:"Guzzlord...? Oh, you mean Mr. Glutton? His kind has lived on this planet since long before I was even born. They eat anything, and I mean literally anything. Trash, toxic waste, you name it. But their numbers seem to be decreasing these days."....So, here we have proof that the number of Guzzlord is decreasing by the day, thus, the species is going extinct. But... why, exactly? If the Guzzlord are here to clean up the Earth from a near-apocalyptic wipe out of civilization as we know it, SURELY there's enough debris and junk for everyone, right? Well...... this is where I disagree with the most common theory, and for something a lot of people seem to overlook. If the Guzzlord are going extinct, and their job was to clean the ruins of this world, WHY does Mr.Hazmat not stop you from catching it?Think about it. Guzzlords are going EXTINCT, meaning that the less Guzzlords there are, the less chance of cleaning up the world exists, because for every Guzzlord that dies or gets captured by a trainer, that's one less Guzzlord working, and thus, more and more time it takes. Now, you could make the argument that "You're the main character, you can do what you want!" and to a point, you're 100% right.... but why would Gamefreak feel the need to include that line about their numbers decreasing? They didn't include that line for no reason, THAT much I can say for sure.So finally, I disown you, "Guzzlord is a good guy, he's helping!" theory, and present my own theory for you.Guzzlord caused this apocalypseYes, I know.... You've probably been idolizing Guzzlord up to this point as the big, cute, adorable black hole that eats everything.... Wait, Black Hole? You know, that reminds me of the fears that the Large Hadron Collider brought with it a few years back, how people were soo sure that turning it on would cause a MASSIVE Black Hole to open up and basically swallow the Earth up inside of it, ending all life as we know it......You know, Guzzlord IS a walking black hole... and if the cause of the apocalypse was due to the power plant....It may be a stretch, but is it not possible that a freak accident, or potentially intentional with unforeseen consequences, actually caused the BIRTH of not just a black hole, but a SENTIENT Black Hole, ala Guzzlord?Think about it.Suddenly, the power plant. A freak accident spawns countless, maybe thousands of these things. The power plant is gone in mere moments, but Guzzlord is never satisfied. It branches out, attacking anything, and anyone it can find, and with so many, and potentially no knowledge of just what this thing even IS, humans and Pokemon alike are killed by the Guzzlords, devoured whole. The humans of this world, seeing that they stand no chance, escape to the only place free of the Guzzlords, the stars, leaving all the Guzzlords behind to feed on anything left over. For awhile, they eat anything and everything they can get ahold of.Buildings, Pokemon, unfortunate people who couldn't escape.... but after awhile, their food sources begin to dry up, and a Guzzlord is never satisfied.Eventually, the weakest Guzzlords die off, or worse, become food for the much, much stronger ones. This explains why their numbers are going down. There's less food, so like in real life, desperate times call for desperate measures, which even in real animals can cause death by starvation, or worse, inter-species cannibalism. This would also explain WHY Mr.Hazmat doesn't try to stop you from capturing Guzzlord. If it were actually trying to help, he'd have said that, mentioned that the Guzzlord's job was to clean up the power plant's failure, but all he says, is that the Guzzlord species is close to extinction. But why is he soo chill about Guzzlord? Even calling it a pet name. I mean, if MY theory is true, that means that Guzzlord caused the apocalypse, killing countless lives in the process.Well, to be blunt, he didn't experience it firsthand. He was born AFTER it happened, while in space.Just remember what he said about the poster and how the adults reacted to the poster. They DESPISED it. They saw first hand what the power plant caused, and they saw the horrors that a horde of countless Guzzlord did to their world. Likewise, he finds the poster adorable.Even though he has an 'idea' as to what happened, he's ignorant to the truth. He didn't live through it so he doesn't feel the same resentment towards the failure of a power company and their world-ending accident. He just doesn't know the full extent of what Guzzlord did. Now, you may have one argument left, and I already know what it is."Well, can't they just get more Guzzlord to replace the one you catch?"And my answer is simply.... No. That's absolutely impossible, because it's very clear that, at least if MY theory is correct, that Guzzlord was made by a freak accident, meaning that if it was just a one time thing, then there'd be a finite amount of Guzzlord, all sparked from this incident. So no, they can't just 'get more Guzzlord', because, there are ONLY the Guzzlord that were born from this incident.....But then, just WHAT was Guzzlord before the freak incident?Well, this is the most flimsy part of my theory, but one final time, let's go back to what Mr.Hazmat says:"Guzzlord...? Oh, you mean Mr. Glutton? His kind has lived on this planet since long before I was even born. They eat anything, and I mean literally anything. Trash, toxic waste, you name it. But their numbers seem to be decreasing these days.".....Notice anything that stands out there? Trash? Toxic waste?Do we know any Pokemon, any Pokemon at all that was imported to Alola to deal with 'trash'?......You know exactly where I'm going here. There was a freak accident at the Alolan Power Plant, which involed ALOLAN MUK, and whatever happened, turned the Muks into Guzzlords.Gamefreak felt it necessary to point out SPECIFICALLY that Guzzlord eats trash AND toxic waste, things that Alolan Muk eats, in fact, that's his entire shtick! Guzzlord isn't a picky eater, either. Gamefreak themselves felt it necessary to hammer in the fact specifically that he eats trash and toxic waste above all else.Further proof? Just look at some of Grimer and Muk's Pokedex entries this gen, and something one NPC mentions:"Grimer eat garbage. But if they run out of garbage to eat, sometimes they start taking bites out of nearby buildings. We Janitors have to use our formidable skills to keep them in check!"Now compare that to Guzzlord's dex entry:"It has gobbled mountains and swallowed whole buildings, according to reports. It’s one of the Ultra Beasts."Coincidence, I'll let you decide, but I think not!TL;DR Guzzlord is NOT a good guy. He is NOT this Alola's version of Wall-E. THEY caused this apocalypse, be it intentional, or from a freak accident by the power company accidentally creating these things. Also, it's HIGHLY likely it was an Alolan Muk before it became Guzzlord, but that's just my theory on what Guzzlord's origin point is.But hey, that's just my theory. via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2zKIYgR
