You can catch an Inkay pretty much as soon as the 2nd Hau battle is over near Professor Kukui's Lab. You can catch it with Contrary, which makes every stat change made on Inkay become it's opposite (growl increases attack, iron defense decreases defense etc.). This makes AI battles cake as they never check for Contrary when using stat decreasing moves (I've had a x3 attack x3 defense Inkay in a battle already)Not only that, you get access to a very strong move early on (Foul Play) and since Inkay's attack and defense is fairly good it can take some hits while dealing out some damage. It evolves at level 30 too, which is fairly early, and has access to really nice moves like Slash, Night Slash, Super Power (which boosts your attack and defense) and Psycho Cut. It's Psychic/Dark typing has 1 major weakness (Bug) but it's no big deal given the tremendous amounts of Rock, Flying and Litten (if you chose him) there are in the game. It also gets access to Peck and Pluck, which can give it an advantage over most bug types.Malamar also gets Swagger through level up pretty early, which if you combine with Foul Play you can one shot a lot of Pokémon pretty easily.
