"[No Spoilers] Daisy Oak is your Mother in S/M"
I've been working my way trying to 100% Ultra Moon and one thing has been nagging at the back of my head nonstop, which is we never got an answer as to why the player character moved to Alola (other than easy plot device.)While discovering that your Mother is the famous (or infamous) Cat Scratch Girl from Kanto, she's questioned as to why she left Kanto and although the Mother doesn't answer specifically, the camera pans directly to the Player Character - giving indication that you're the main reason - thus, making it seem like there's more to this story than being told.So I'm going to try and explain below how I've come to my conclusion. I'm also going to try and detail how and why Daisy moved to Alola, and who the father is.I'm also only going to use information that is available in the game universe, so the manga and any anime adaptations will be considered non-canon.Physical Characteristics:For those who don't know, Daisy Oak is Professor Oak's granddaughter and Blues older sister. Most notably, she the one who gives Red the 'Town Map' at the start of R/B/Y. Now in-game we don't have much sense of what she looks like other than brown hair (EDIT: Yes there is a trainer style sprite, but that only confirms her hair colour as her eyes are closed). But thanks to genetics, we can make an educated guess and deduce what she should look like, so let's first look at her cousin-twice-removed; Samson Oak.Samson's complexion is incredibly tanned, very similar to how the player characters mum is. In contrast to Blue, who obviously hasn't been in Alola very long and is pale as a ghost. We can tell that this isn't a complexion Daisy was born with, but gained over time in the sun much like Samson. During Gen 1 and 2 she was most likely pale like Blue until the move. Now let's look at Blue's characteristics; brown eyes. A dominant gene when it comes to eyes. Although Samson Oak and Professor Oak have black eyes, the fact that Blue has brown would lead me to believe either one or both of Daisy's and Blue's parents have Brown eyes and hair. Which again, the player character's mother has.We can assume that if Blue was 10 during Gen 1, 12 during Gen 2 and roughly 10 years have passed, he's about 22 during the events of S/M. Due to how Daisy act's in-game (detailed more below) we can make a safe assumption that she was 15-16 17-18 during Gen 1, 17-18 19-20 during Gen 2 and currently 27-28 29-30 (I didn't realise that the PC in S/M was 11 and not 10, so I changed the ages slightly to make it less creepy), which makes sense considering how youthful the mother looks in S/M.Personality Traits:We don't know much about the protagonist's mother other than two things, she doesn't like to unpack and she cares for your pokemon. The second one may be a common trope throughout the generations, but I feel carries more weight here and I'll explain further later.Daisy herself seems to be a lot more mature than Blue. In both her dialogue and actions, you get a sense of her caring nature. In Gen 2 and in Gen 1 remakes, she'll groom your pokemon raising their affection levels and is quoted by a NPC in Vermilion City as " the person who is most liked by Pokémon." Considering that in other generations, when your mother heals your Pokémon, they're in-fact telling you to "rest up." Whereas, in this Gen, the mother will actually heal your Poémon directly - which would mean she has a sense of how to groom and care for Pokémon.Daisy also has an obsession with Tea. Most interactions with her revolve around her Tea breaks and is described as having Tea everyday and will often purchase Tea from the Celadon Dept. Store. Now, since Kanto is based off Japan, we can assume that the tea they're drinking is Green Tea. Green Tea is made from Camellia Sinensis leaves, the very same plant that we can see here in the PC's home. Which makes sense considering it wouldn't be native to Alola, probably expensive to import and would be cheaper to grow herself. Even better, we can see a we can see a tea mug sitting on the table. How did she end up in Alola? This'll be a long section. From here on out, I'll be referring to the PC's Mother as if she was Daisy. A lot of this is just speculation, and in my opinion holds less weight that the other two sections, although doesn't detract from the original theory. The Beginning:We know that Professor Kukui travelled Kanto battling Gym Leaders, and Daisy has also stated that one of her reasons for coming to Alola was due to being inspired after Kukui's fierce battles in the Gyms. But, that doesn't make sense. How would Daisy, just by chance have seen him battle at a Gym? She has given no indication of being involved within Gyms, or being a trainer herself.Well, considering Kukui was interested heavily in Pokémon and new to the region - it would make sense that he would visit that regions Professor, Oak himself. It's during this meeting that he has a chance encounter with Daisy, who by her own good nature decides to escort Kukui to Viridian City, not too far from her hometown, so he can challenge his first Gym. After witnessing the fierce battle between Giovanni and Kukui, she's in awe and decides to travel with Kukui.Fateful Encounter:During their travels, Kukui and Daisy develop a close sibling-like bond (which is why, when Kukui meets you he refers to you as "Cousin." Although colloquially common in Hawaii, Professor Kukui is the only person who refers to you as this in the whole game.) The duo eventually end up in Cerulean City - where Kukui decides to meet Bill. Why Bill? You may ask. Well, Kukui's childhood friend and trial-partner Molayne is responsible for the PC systems within Alola, so it makes sense for Molayne to have had regular contact with Bill, thus making him a mutual friend. After Kukui heads back home to Alola, Daisy and Bill keep regular contact and eventually become... Close.Troubled Waters:Bill is a shut-in. He's even willingly given pokemon away because " I don't like being outside. Can I count on you to play with it?" During the events of G/S you can find Bill at his parents house. He says it's because of his grandfather, but you wouldn't travel to another region entirely simply because of one person. Or would you?Daisy is pregnant, and Bill doesn't know what to do. Stressed, and even going to the point of inventing a time-machine, it's obvious he isn't a family man."My pop, he won't work. All he does is goof off all day long. He's getting to be a real headache..." Bill states. They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and eventually Bill follows in his footsteps, with years of emotional neglect to his family and lackluster parenting, eventually Daisy has enough and decides that this isn't a healthy environment for her child. Then she remembers Kukui. And so, the travel to Alola begins. This is backed up by the fact that at the end of S/M, Lillie "hears" that Bill has a method of cell-separation, thanks to an accident he had with a teleporter. It would make sense that Bill hasn't made this information widespread since the technology isn't in use more commonly, so it would makes sense that Daisy herself was the one to tell Lillie this.Alternative Ending: Kukui knocks Daisy up, he leaves for Alola before she can tell him she's pregnant and she eventually makes her way back to Alola to try and rekindle things, only to find that Kukui is now happily re-married and looking after Lillie, so she decides to keep it to herself. Edit: alternative theory no longer holds true thanks to /u/itstonayy comment, but also further validates distant Bill theoryEndingIf you made it this far, I thank you. This is my first theory, and admittedly probably a weak one at best. But after looking at every notable character from Kanto in past games, Daisy fits the bill the most. Especially with that plant in the house.TL;DR: Phoebe from the E4 is originally from Alola. She's tanned and dresses like an Alolan Dancer, accompanied with the fact that she specialises in Ghost types, has a Cubon and Marowak's in Alola are part Ghost is too much of a coincidence for me. via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2k7JfTA
