"Aggron as a Gym Attacker"

#PokemonGO: I recently got my first Mewtwo and have been reading a lot into the way people are using him as a sweeper or specialist in the meta. More importantly, I've been reading a lot more into the way that people are planning their standard battle parties to quickly and effectively take down gyms (and also the way that people are going about setting up a solid line of defense at their gyms). All of this to say, after educating myself via the internet and knocking out a few gyms today: I believe that Aggron's double weakness to Fighting caused a lot of people to write him off as useful, but I think he deserves a solid place in the meta as a gym attacker. Here's why. There has become a standard of elite defenders (duh... basically everything fat or pink). When one needs to ensure gym is held for a half hour, a 2700cp Blissey does the job. The same goes for Chansey, Snorlax, Ttar, and the occasional Slaking. The logical answer is a Machamp, then another Machamp, a Machamp, then a Machamp, then maybe a Hariyama (but tbh probably a Machamp). All of what I said you already know, but now here's the thing. Gym turnover does not happen when someone says can I? it happens when someone says should I? Almost any level 30 trainer can take out a gym of 6 lv 40s (assuming the lv 40s are not ruthlessly Golden Razzing), but when the risk (aka potions and revives which have both been hard to come by for many players in my area, both lv 20s and 40s alike) outweighs the reward, the gym is safe. my apologies I'm digressing. Anyways, one step deeper than the gigantic tanks on gyms, and one step deeper than an army of Machamps, we have the next wave of counters. The Pokemon strategically placed in gyms to rock Machamp's noggin. The Psychic counters (Espeon, Slowbro/King, weird Exeggutors, Gardevoir, etc.) and Fairy counters which will also send your sweeping Dragonite to the ER real quick (Clefable, Azumarill, Ursaring, Donphan, and Gardevoir again). Now the final step: counter the gym counter to your original counter! Ok now here's the point I'm getting at, Aggron can be your sixth man. There's more than enough room to have two (maybe three) Machamps, two to three sweepers such as Mewtwo and Dragonite, and then an Aggron to take out the Psychic AND Fairy types that get in the way. Aggron's typing makes his STAB steel moves super effective against Fairy And Resistant to both Fairy and Psychic. The only current competition for this role is by Scizor, but I believe that Aggron's massive defense stat makes him more potion friendly (aka the reason for my lil tangent earlier). He's the quick get around to keep your Machamps and sweepers healthy while you quickly take down gyms. I'm saying all of this because I bought a first class seat on the hype train when Aggron was released, and was disappointed when most people wrote him off because of his gigantic weakness to fighting. I don't believe he has ANY roll in the meta as a gym defender, but I do think that he may serve some roll in it as a Gym attacker until Metagross shows up. TL;DR I tried Aggron and he worked really well for taking annoying Fairy and Psychic types off Gyms. A quick potion effective way to keep sweepers and Machamps alive.Edit: text fixes via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2BHWu8T
