"The Silph League and a crazy Roadtrip"
#PokemonGO: TLDR: We did a Mewtwo raid in Saratoga Springs NY. We made last minute insane plans to drive to Boston to catch Unown outside of Pax like crazy people. We took a 3 hour drive which turned into a 4 hour drive with stops. Caught the craziest pokemon ever. Talked to complete strangers through discord only because the League Map made it possible. This is a tale of excitement and romance. Well...maybe not so much the romance. As many of you know, Mewtwo Raids happened all over this Saturday. My discord group regularly spends community day in Saratoga Springs NY. Specifically between Congress Park and Saratoga Spa State Park (shout out to the Toga people!!! amazing group!). We were very lucky to get our EX passes for yesterday and we had been planning the trip since they hit our games. It was set it stone.Curveball.Niantic makes Pax East an Unown event. For reference sake, from Saratoga to the Boston Convention Center is about a three hour drive. From our cities to Saratoga it's 45 min.I jokingly messaged our group about a road trip after Mewtwo. I say jokingly...but the kind of joke you really hope your friends take seriously and make happen. In this case, that's exactly how it played out. Talk about traction. There was a rollercoaster of logistics to play out to make it happen as a potential ride for the group fell through...we scrambled. That part ended up being both sad for two other members of our discord and still reason to celebrate as we had managed to secure smaller transportation, yet transportation all the same. Now, the last time I had been to Boston before yesterday was back in 8th grade for a class trip to the Aquarium (which, btw has changed a good deal in the last 20 years I'll have you know). So, not being familiar with the area I thought I should check out the League Map. I ended up finding two different larger discords. The Boston Mystics and Pokemon Go Raid Massachusetts. Shout out to Centh, CamelToad13, princesskla555, GarciaMango, angelvelez, (worldwide)woogie and Taliche. Both discords were super friendly and gave suggestions on where to park, where to hunt and raid. Heck, one even sent me a map with the different ranges the unown had been caught from the Convention Center. Super amazing and many thanks to them and to the silph folks for making such an amazing tool. Now, for the fun stuff. So, we arrive and literally, immediately find all three unown. Just like that. We have all read the stories about how people say they're everywhere at these events. I'm sure that many of you, like me, thought that there would be a lot, but not so many you're tripping over them. Well, that's actually the case. Very casually walking around we caught 51 unown. Not even putting in any real effort. I highly reccomend that if an unown event occurs within a reasonable distance from you that you go to it.Now we see a tier five raid right near where we park. Obviously we head over that way. Have to catch a Boston Latios for the memories. We meet a few locals who show up for the raid as well. Very nice folks whose names I wish I could recall...Apologies. You guys were all awesome. As the most amazing of bonuses a member of my discord (a very nice lady named yellowdancer8) called our attention to a rather large unown X we had all captured. It turned out to be perfect. It was...I don't even know. We had to take this crazy trip to catch Unown and not only did it pay off...it gave each of us our rarest and coolest pokemon to date. It comes with an amazing story to boot.So many thanks to them and to you execs for providing the tools to make a great day even better with amazing catches and friendly people!P.S. Got New England Clam Chowder and Lobster Mac n Cheese while we were there. Highly recommended. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2HknzPq
