"Is the ‘Shiny Meta’ good for the game?"
#PokemonGO: Is anyone else concerned about the direction Go has taken with the return of legendary raid bosses as shinies, and consecutive themed events with shiny releases? I know that FOMO is a big income generator for Niantic, but the ‘meta’ seems to have shifted to shiny hunting as the goal for many players.Defenders have been almost entirely devalued, and the value of attackers is largely confined to short-manning raids/damage balls. As someone who is much more interested in the ‘value’ of each Pokemon than whether they are shiny or not, I’m a little concerned about the shiny meta, and hope that Niantic plans to add features to the game which many of the contributors on the Road have suggested (gym leaderboards, badges for short-manning raids etc, ideally status effects and later pvp too) and which require a greater understanding of the value and use of each Pokemon.I like getting shinies too, and appreciate that regardless of the meta there will still be lots of ‘useless’ Pokemon, but with the refrain over the last few weeks having become ‘I’ll do it if it’s Ho-Oh and not Latios’ I’m a bit concerned that the individual value of all Pokemon is becoming increasingly lessened in the eyes of the hardcore casual, and for Niantic. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2sEwrIz
