"Have they made it so more Pokemon appear?"

#PokemonGO: When I played this game last year when it came out, the only way I could catch Pokemon in my house was by using an incense (I live in the countryside).I decided to reinstall it today and about 5 Pokemon appeared (may be due to the quest), but I also noticed the map is way more detailed, some more roads around my house (walking paths ect) show up. Also in the Nearby tab there were a lot of Pokemon.Have they improved/increased the Pokemon spawning since last year? If so Im so glad they did.
