"Useless info: the game keeps tracking friendship progress beyond best friend status"

#PokemonGO: So I've now gained 6 best friends and wanted to do a little experiment now that we reached our supposed 'final' threshold. I decided to not do any friendship increasing actions with the friend that I became best friends with 2nd, but did do it with the others. While sorting for Friendship Status I now slowly see that friend dropping down the list. This means that the game continues to track friendship status even after the best friend status is achieved. Similar to how gym xp is still being tracked even after reaching gold.This could possibly be in preparation of even more friendship levels or benefits. This could also very well mean that they just didn't want to cap it but nothing much should be expected of it.
