"[Discussion] Samsung Galaxy S4, wifi-only detected as spoofing?"

#PokemonGO: (Cross-posted from /r/pokemongo, but was suggested I ask here instead) :)Yes yes yes, I know most of you are going to say that yes, my son is spoofing/cheating/etc, but hear me out :)I have my main account, and my son (10 years old) has a child account. He has an older semi-broken Samsung Galaxy S4 (bad SIM slot, so it's wifi only, which works out great for us because that means he can't use data unless he's at home or we enable a hostspot on one of our phones).Today he couldn't log into Pokemon go (frequently happens on this phone, so wasn't too concerned, I have to periodically uninstall/reinstall the app to get it to re-auth). And when I re-logged him in, I got the 'First Strike' warning, and limited spawns. So, checked his phone, no spoofing apps, no IV checkers, nothing of the like (he doesn't even know his account credentials to be able to do any IV checkers or the like). The OS is not rooted, running 5.0.1 (yes, it's older, but it's an older phone and AT&T has no further updates on it).Because of the busted SIM slot, the time/date has to be set manually, but it showed the right time, and timezone when I checked. So I'm at a loss to explain why he has the strike, and if after this week is up he'll get another.I have to wonder if Niantic is seeing the no SIM, and wifi-only on a cell phone and assuming it's spoofing, or if there's something else I've missed? I can't find any useful information out there for anything else to look at. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2QuTlfQ
