"We need a competitive format to show off our Pokemon"

#PokemonGO: Something that has always irked me as someone who likes Pokemon, is a bit competitive and always reads the Silphroad daily to understand the most about the game, is that there's really no way in the game to express how strong your Pokemon really are in the game.At best, you can gather a strong team so that you can solo a T3 raid by yourself (or if you have another dedicated friend, duo a T4 etc.). But in reality, legendary raids which are generally the most sought after raids, usually have enough people to complete them so having the best counters doesn't really matter. And even if it mattered, no one really sees how much you've contributed to the victory. In many other games, you at least have some competitive battle format where you can verse other players and you have some sort of ranking or rating.Although we don't have PVP yet, I still think the game could have something similar to have Pokemon Shuffle has.I only played Pokemon Shuffle it was initially released on the 3DS, but from memory you had these challenges where you can try to score as many points as possible. If you were ranked in a certain bracket (say top 5000) of all participating players around the world, you got the legendary pokemon as a reward.I think Pokemon Go could actually use something like this.Have a raid boss event for 2 weeks which you can challenge from your own home and have different challenges such as:See how fast you can defeat the boss (DPS)See how much damage you can do before your whole team faints (TDO)Have restrictions on the team you can use (unique pokemon only, or no legendaries or no evolutions)There are probably a lot of other creative ideas you can have for the challenge which means that players need to strategise and be flexible enough to accommodate these new rules each time. Then I think a reward if you were ranked top 5000 or whatever could be things such as TMs, rare candies or premium raid passes (I don't think exclusive Pokemon, especially competitively viable ones, are a good idea. Casual players need access to these too). A cosmetic reward would be pretty cool too (say that the cosmetic reward is unlocked once you achieved a gold level badge which is related to this event). Then perhaps others may see you on a leaderboard and you might be semi-famous if you were rank 1. Or maybe you could just show off your exclusive cosmetic avatar item that you've earned through many event challenges. This lets us use a greater variety of Pokemon and be able to give us some ranking and idea about how we stand compared to others. I think this could be a pretty good way to let competitive players compete without actually having direct PVP yet. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2Jlhljc
