"Redesign a Region"

Back in the few days/week when Let's Go started to leak that it would be in Kanto but before we officially knew anything a friend and I were discussing how we would re-imagine Kanto for the new games. Naturally, none of it came to pass but I thought it would be fun to see what ideas people have if they got to redesign an existing region. Here is what I had come up with for Kanto.Pokemon:All the originals plus their new evolutions or baby evolutions. Then I would add in some more Pokemon from other regions (either as is or as "Kanto variants") to boost the total number to between 300-350 Pokemon. When adding additional ones it would be skewed to supplement the low numbers of ghost, dark, dragon, steel, etc. present in the original Kanto set.Ride Pokemon/Partner Moves: Keeping with the trend of ditching HMs there would either be new ride/partner Pokemon or partner moves to deal with obstacles. These would correspond to Fly, Surf, Strength, Flash, Cut, and a Sing that works like the Pokeflute.Playthough: Note, in my mind this takes place roughly 20-30 years after Gold and Silver so Kanto has seen some changes. In my redesign your character starts in the Sevii Isles on Seven Island. These islands can now be surfed between (which would be the first partner move) but you need to reach One Island to get to mainland Kanto. There would be no evil team present here but you would face your first gym on Four Island which is headed by Lorelei's daughter. Keeping with the idea of Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee, every theme trainer (gym leader, Elite Four, etc.) where if makes sense to have an eeveelution or member of the Pikachu family will have one. So the first gym leader's best Pokemon will be a Glaceon.Once you reach One Island you sail to the mainland and arrive at the Seafoam Islands which have now been built into a port town. The cave will still exist and you will find the first of the three Evil team Admins there who uses a few Dark type Pokemon and promises to reform after you beat them. Seafoam would also have Gym 2 which is actually Misty. Since Seafoam now has a town it would make sense for a water trainer like Misty to want to relocate her gym to that place. She now has a Vaporeon to supplement her Staryu/Starmie combo.Leaving Seafoam the path to Cinnabar is blocked by the evil team (Cinnabar has actually been rebuilt but only as the main lair of the bad guys so no more gym there) so its off to Fuchsia. The town is now a ghost town with just a Pokecenter, a few people and several dilapidated buildings. The Safari Zone never re-opened, and Janine left the gym which caused it to close. You will run into the second Admin of the evil team which is looting the Safari Zone for rare Pokemon. The town is now a prime spot for catching a mixture of new Pokemon brought from other regions and several ghost types. The way up Cycling Road is blocked (it is now the new Safari Zone but you enter from the north only) so you have to take the seaside route north. Halfway (the area with all the weird fences) is now a small town with the third gym, flying, in honor of all the bird keepers that used to hang out there. At the fork to Vermilion the way north to Lavender is blocked so you head to Vermillion and find a desert area. The digletts have apparently kept digging and turned this area in a desert. Vermilion now boasts a ground type gym (Gym 4) to match their new surroundings and the fossil resurrection is located here. This time you can get one of two items that the resurrection machine can combine with Eevee to make prehistoric eeveelutions that are the rock or ground type (one item for each).Going north the small path between Celadon and Saffron has been built up and they are now just one big city, with two gyms. These are a Normal Gym and a Ghost Gym. The two gyms are actually in a contest to see which one will remain the gym of the city and which will close. It is a popularity contest and the gym with more challengers will stay open and the other you will not be able to challenge and will close.Off to the West is the new Safari Zone, the North exit is now a trolley station but you need a very expensive pass to ride it (more than the max money) and east is Lavender which still has the Radio Tower but it now also linked to the Power Plant so you can explore that before entering Rock Tunnel. Evil team Admin 3 will be fought at the Power Plant for the first time. Rock Tunnel is now more expansive with the upper 2 floors being lit and the bottom three floors still in the dark. It is filled with a big mining operation on the top few floors which is why those are now lit. After getting through you find Cerulean City which is now a posh suburb of Saffron/Celadon with trainers such as Rich Boys and Socialites. Gym 6 is here and is a Fairy Gym (leader has a Sylveon).Mt. Moon now boasts inside cave areas and outside mountain climbing areas. Pewter city is still the home of Brock and he is Gym 7 with a much stronger and rounded team than before (including the new eeveelution). Viridian forest is now a nature preserve and the area between Viridian City and Pallet Town is farmland. Gym 8 is in Viridian, but the Gym leader is out of town and dealing with the evil team at their HQ on Cinnibar Island, so you have to go there first to stop them once and for all. After beating the evil team you find out that Gym 8 is a psychic gym run by Lillie who has come into her own after leaving Alola many years ago. Finally, the Elite 4 is totally new. Your first challenge is actually the evil team Admin who used Dark type in your first encounter. He followed through on reforming his path and is a member of the Elite 4. The second will be Janine (poison) who you now find out left Fuchsia to take Koga's place here. The third member will be either Normal or Ghost and will be the gym leader from Saffron/Celadon that you did not fight back at Gym 5. The 4th member will be Lieutenant Surge as the head of the Elite 4. Finally, Blue will be the Champion with Red being a bonus fight somewhere in the post game.TLDR: 300-350 Pokemon, 2 new eeveelutions based on fossils, Sevii Islands as starting points, 8 Gyms: Four Island (Ice), Seafoam Islands (Water), New Town between Fuchsia and Lavender (Flying), Vermillion (Ground), Saffron/Celadon (choice between Normal and Ghost), Cerulean (Fairy), Pewter (Rock), and Viridian (Psychic), Elite 4: Dark, Poison, Ghost/Normal (opposite of choice in gym 5), and Electric.Sorry for the huge wall of text, but I am curious to hear what you all would do to redesign a region. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/2RkyJYJ
