"After 20 years playing Pokémon, I got my first shiny in the wild. However, things didn't go as planned."

I started playing Pokémon in 1998, when a friend showed me an emulation of Pokémon Blue and I was instantly hooked (yeah, I started with emulation, but it all ends well for Nintendo and GameFreak, getting hundreds of my dollars).I then became hooked and have bought EVERY SINGLE (core) POKÉMON game.I tend to avoid wild battles, because I plan my teams in advance of playing the games (yeah, that spoils the wild encounters for me, but hey, planning is what I love doing). So I NEVER encountered a shiny Pokémon after all these years. I took a break after finishing gen IV games and recently came back, beating Gen V and now Gen VI.So, in my way to work today, I come across a horde encounter of Gulpin in Pokémon Y. And there I see it. Blue Gulpin. MY FIRST SHINY IN 20 YEARS! Oh my god. I felt my heart beating faster. I love Gulpin/Swalot, so I HAD to catch it!Not knowing the horde battle mechanics, I weaken it and then try to throw a PokéBall. Nope, you can't catch Pokémon in horde encounters. There goes that.I was about to arrive at work, so I thought "gotta act fast". I send out my Talonflame (highest level on my party) to kill the non-shiny ones. They were 1 hit-KO's for Talonflame at this point.They start attacking. "Gulpin used Pound". Hah, they'll never get me.Shiny Gulpin used Pound. Talonflame's Flame Body is activated. Shiny Gulpin is now burned. "Oh no no no NO". Remember, this one was already low because I tried to catch it before.So now it becomes a race to kill the other Gulpins so I can try to catch the shiny one before it faints. I sweat as the shiny Gulpin's HP goes down turn by turn.I finish off the last non-shiny, and shiny-Gulpin goes down due to burn damage, with no chance for me to throw a last PokéBall to catch it.20 years of no shinies ending in missing the chance to get one.
