"Pokemon Go/ Let's Go is not the death of Pokemon, but it has changed the focus of the series."

I've been thinking a lot about why myself and my peers have slowly become bored and frustrated with the newer Pokemon games. To be honest, when Pokemon Go came around, I was out there day -1 (downloaded the app off the NZ app store). I spent dozens of hours each week for the first month collecting every mon I could find and I really thought that they'd finally captured the magic of Pokemon that the franchise had been missing. As time went on, though, I realized that yes, having Pokemon everywhere did fulfill some of my Pokemon fantasies. But, on the other hand, the incentive to catch and horde 1000's of Pokemon, turn them into candy, rinse and repeat, while addictive, is a sort of mental junk food. Sure, Go and Lets Go are the most complete interpretation of the old "Gotta Catch 'Em All" slogan, but they fundamentally change Pokemon from creatures into memorabilia, and my connection to them changed for the worse.Every time I read early description of Pokemon by the developers, I'm swept into this mysterious fantasy world where humans forge lifelong friendships with incredible creatures. In this world, it can be assumed that an individual may come to train and bond with maybe a few dozen Pokemon in their life with maybe a larger periphery group with shorter-term connections (sort of like friendships in our world). In the anime, manga, and games we never see NPC's lobbing 100s of Pokeballs at every inhabited patch of land until no Pokemon exist in the wild. Instead, we see the environment lush with Pokemon and NPC's typically only possess potentially a full party of Pokemon with gym leaders and other professionals presumedly maybe a few more in training. People always bring up the Pokemon MMO example and I think (while the idea of a Pokemon MMO will most-likely never come to pass officially) the idea stems from this desire to explore a full world of Pokemon; one in which at any moment, one might encounter that one Pokemon that by happenstance they end up bonding with for the rest of their experience. But that's just my interpretation.TLDR; catching 1000s of Pokemon and turning them into candy is addictive but takes the magic out of the franchise. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/2rjWHrq
