"What I've learned from going 0/61 on Shiny Groudon"
#PokemonGO: With two weeks in and 24 hours left on this first round of possibly Shiny Groudons, I am currently sitting at 0 for 61 and I wanted to share what that "struggle" has taught me. There are moments that torment me, like when a player said hauntingly, "Oh everyone is impatient we have two weeks and we're all gonna get one." Or the guy who stood next to me and got a shiny 100 Kyogre and then got another shiny 100 Groudon at the very next raid. One week in me and the two friends I'd made through this game, I struggle with that, were stuck at zero. We were raiding and doing simultaneous checks when they both got their first shinies and were celebrating. This is where the world began to feel small and I began to question inevitability. From there we formed a devoted raid train hell bent on getting me my shiny. Whether it was pity, friendship, or a mix of both, they committed themselves to doing more raids to aid in the search of my Shiny.Between Friday and Saturday we did 16 raids together which yielded nothing. While others were posting their 3rd, 4th, or in one instance 9th shiny, we were stuck at 1/1/0. Sunday morning we hit the town again and finally struck pay dirt. By the end of the day they each got their 2nd and 3rd, while I was still at 0.But as soon as one of them got his 2nd, he offered it to trade. I have my shiny, it's 71% but it is priceless because I learned to be grateful for and to trust my friends in this game. Yeah it's just a silly part of a silly phone game, but they cared enough to put in the effort to help and I'm extraordinarily grateful for that even if the reward didn't materialize just as we'd hoped. The other thing I learned is not to focus on other people for any single event. It's hard to do raid after raid, hearing the one or two celebratory voices and wishing that were you. But it's important to remember that each event occurs in a vacuum, yours was shiny or not-shiny because of a randomly generated number and no amount of jealousy will change that. Be happy for people, be good to them, and hopefully that goodness will come back in how they care for you enough to help when bad RNG frowns upon you. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://bit.ly/2HBBQej
