"My wholesome story for tonight"

#PokemonGO: Some background: I came back to playing PoGo in January after more than two years - my friend got me back into it. Obviously I was realle bad at first, wasted all of my pokeballs, threw out a couple of valuable pokemon and wasted a lot of candy. However as the past months haven't been really good for me, as I had to endure a lot of strain - work, university, relationship - I got a little bit addicted to Pokemon, as it was one thing that made me genuinely enjoy myself. And it's not a really bad addiction either - I've been walking 10x as much since I started playing, I also started spending more time with my friends who also play. And I do not feel like I neglected any of my responsibilities, so everything is fine.I got a lot better in the past two months. I went from a complete tabula rasa to knowing most things about meta, which pokemon to keep, how to hatch eggs efficiently, how to counter in raids and so on. I also try to do at least a raid a day and have several raiding groups so that one of them is always available. So, today I was going home from a long day at uni. I usually take a bus, but lately I've been walking the way, as I live really nearby and it's a good chance to farm a few pokestops. Of course my route followed a path of stops and gyms. Near one of the gyms I saw a group of people, who were pretty obviously raiding a Dialga. Didn't think much, as I wasn't intending on doing a raid at the moment, none of them were my friends and the colour of the gym wasn't even my team, so I figured I'd most likely waste a pass anyway. However when I was passing them by, I saw an angry commotion that looked like they lost the raid. And yeah, they did. Well, 7 people, and they can't beat a Dialga, so I figured they were most likely very casual players. Only then did I notice they were actually two families - two dads, two kids - and some randoms. From a glance I took at one phone it seemed they were level 20-25. I kindly asked if I could do the raid with them. They said it went really bad and they don't think I can contribute enough to help them beat the boss, as around 35% was left the last time. 35%, I thought? Challenge accepted. My Machamps can't wait.I told everyone to pick their best fighting pokemon, as well as dragons if they had any. They didn't know it made any difference, but I explained that Aggrons and Steelixes are not necessarily the best choices you can actually make. It turned out they had 10 really good fighting pokemon. With my 10 more, we actually managed to beat the raid with 80 spare seconds.I don't know if karma exists, but I almost jumped when I saw my dialga; 2307. 100 IV, my first one in 17 tries. I was super happy and excited, but also stressed - I only had 10 balls. Fortunately I caught it in my second throw and was getting ready to leave. However, I saw those two young boys (about 10yo), who were super excited to have beaten a 5* boss just a minute ago struggle really hard with their throws. So I thought I'm feeling strong, I'd go for it. I asked one of them whose screen I saw to give me a go at this. It was his last ball and I didn't think it made much sense to teach him how to throw curve balls when he's fighting a raid boss. He gave me his phone, I threw the ball as composedly as I could and gave it back to him as I turned my back on it and closed my eyes (it's my lucky charm, to be honest). And yes, it caught. The other boy came to me and asked "hey, sir, could you please catch mine, too? i'm so bad at throwing :(". I was scared my luck will run out this time, but I went for it and in three throws this one also got stuck in a Pokeball. I was so pumped I started jumping around like a maniac and they actually joined in. I got my best high fives ever from them, a hug each, and some really broad smiles from their dads (who unfortunately didn't manage to catch, but they didn't seem to care that much). Before I left I instructed them to ALWAYS throw curveballs, as pokemons catch easier this way. One of them was level 17 and the other level 23 so I guess they have a lot of time to learn. It was 6PM then, it's now 11:40PM as I'm writing this and I'm still filled with pure joy.I'm really, really glad that I discovered Pokemon Go. The community is so awesome, too. I've seens so many people battling with depression or just simply unwanted thoughts clear their minds while running from a stop to a stop looking for candy, quests they want, eggs. Cheers, and here's to all of you catching a 100 of every possible pokedex pokemon.PS I know this will sound really cliche, but please excuse my mistakes, as I'm not a native speaker. via /r/pokemongo https://ift.tt/2Wfpn2d
