"Community Day in rural areas is a great success! Why some Trainers don't want CD to change"
#PokemonGO: Hi Fellow Trainers,With the end of the Bagon Community Day, criticism and suggestions are once again on the rise. I've seen various comments I agree on being dismissed by "city players". It's no secret that rural and urban players play a different game, but I thought I could shed some light on why some players really don't want to change the CD events as they are now. That's why I am making this post to make it clear how the Community Day greatly improves players experience in rural areas.1- Brief Introduction to (EU) Rural Pokémon GoI'll keep this short, but most Trainers in my area can expect to see at most 2 pokéstops if they hike for an hour. Gyms are gathered in a few cities and one can have to travel up to 30 minutes by car to go to a gym.As a result, getting raids is very hard for us folks.2- Benefits of Community DayCommunity Day - and similar events - are the only occasion to meet other Trainers outside. They're the days we are sure to make raid parties for legendaries. As the date is known in advance (most of the time), Trainers can schedule their activities to include spending a few hours in the nearest city with parks and/or gyms, which are usually too far.The number of players is high enough to make the game much more enjoyable while not being crowding one bit like in great cities. Also, the pokéstops and gyms are so concentrated that one will meet others during Community Day. There's just not enough different spots to go.3- Consider Negative Aspects of SuggestionsWhen making suggestions, always keep in mind how they might interact with isolated players. As a matter of fact, Niantic succeeded in bringing down the number of spoofers 2 years ago by increasing the spawn rate everywhere. However, events that strongly favor playing in town (further than usual) encourage spoofing, which further degrades player enjoyment in rural areas: less mates for raids and more unbeatable mons in the already rare gyms. The possibility to aquire a new move (Legacy moves / CD moves) at any other time than a weekend during the day would severe the community gathering that those events are supposed to bolster - which are working very well as they are now. There are suggestions from really invested players: guaranteed shiny legendaries, ability to change movesets more frequently, etc. Some are unrelatable to rural trainers as there is no possible scaling. And if given a choice, most of us would pick preserving our experience rather than having a few more trainers getting their perfect IV + moveset shiny Bagon. As a rural player, I don't want to take the risk to increase the number of spoofers by making changes to events without a thorough reflection on their impact.I hope this post helps to understand the criticism of suggestions I've seen posted here in the last few days. Comments are welcome!TL;DR: Community Day is a great occasion for Trainers in rural areas to gather in spots with gyms and pokéstops, and their best raiding time. We love it, and that's why we're reluctant to some suggestions that are posted now and then on r/TheSilphRoad.EDIT: grammarEDIT: Thanks for the gold, generous Trainer! via /r/TheSilphRoad http://bit.ly/2v6Bvac
