"Does it seem ridiculous that Game Freak keeps on having battling restrictions between games of the same generation?"

It seems like they want people to play on Showdown instead of actual cartridges, becauss ORAS cannot battle X and Y with ORAS megas while Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon cannot use Own Tempo Rockruffs or new Ultra Beasts to battle regular Sun and Moon. Instead of releasing updates to allow full battle compatiblity, they make battling restrictions like this. I've seen people defend this because "they're trying to make people buy the new games" but I think this hurts the company more than it helps. This results in people selling or giving away the old games because the old games don't get support, which results in less new sales, and also makes people wait for the newest version because you need the newer games to get the new Pokemon. In addition, you already have things such as move tutors, different region, new egg moves and whatnot that convince people to get the newer games. If people want or don't want the newer games, I highly doubt one extra reason would change their stance, and if the games are mediocre this may ruin people's feelings on the new games. via /r/pokemon http://bit.ly/2UYNqFG
