"PoGO Player's Carbon Footprint"
#PokemonGO: It seems like Niantic puts a lot of effort in getting players around the world to discover new areas, with the attention that we're on foot. They raise awareness and even offer in-game perks with ways to help out local communities with cleaning up during Earth Day. But all this effort seems to fall flat when the game promotes the use of a vehicle to get to raids, since gyms aren't guaranteed in every area.In the way of social responsibility, it would seem like it would be in Niantic's best interest to offer ways to know about raids without having to drive to various locales in search of them. Sure, you can attempt to be in various gyms in hopes that a raid egg spawns, but it's no guarantee that you'll be in the right gyms. You can rely on many voices to share information via a local Discord server or other various communication sources. But it still requires that sort of information be shared somehow. The obvious solution would be to offer a raid map. But if that isn't something worth introducing, perhaps push/in-game notifications for those with gold badges or defenders when a raid egg spawns. Would give a little more meaning for gold badges beyond spin rewards and bragging rights. I realize you can already see an egg/raid boss when defending, but it would be helpful if there were an option to get a push notification or some sort of reminder notification in game. There are other issues with players using a vehicle to get the best experience with PoGO, but it seems like this would be a major one without compromising intended gameplay. I know many have been asking for a better nearby tracker. Split it to multiple tabs to include nearby wilds, nearby stops, and nearby gyms just to help guide us where to go, instead of those who drive around aimlessly to catch Pokémon. Driving to gyms, since they are space out much more than wild catches seem to have a bigger impact though. Outside special raiding days, finding a raid worth doing can also take awhile. With the last community day behind us, it just got me thinking how much driving around I do. At ~20lbs of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere per gallon of gas, it just seems like the average PoGO player's carbon footprint will increase dramatically due to this game. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://bit.ly/2Ivzvk0
