"Pokemon spinoffs have all but disappeared and I think that's part of why the series is feeling more stale lately."

Pokken came out in 2016, and the only other spinoff I can think of since then is the microtransaction focused Pokemon Quest. And most of the 3DS spinoffs were very simple games just used Pokemon as a branding tool like Shuffle or Picross.Compare this to the DS era when there were nonstop games like Ranger, Mystery Dungeon, Conquest, Dash, and so on. It feels like they've written off the idea that the property should be used in anything other than GameFreak's games and the anime, which really upsets me.For those of us who don't aren't interested in the anime, it's harder to fall in love with these new Pokemon when their existence begins and ends in what many agree is a JRPG with very dated mechanics. There isn't a lot of personality or memorable moments to these very mathematical encounters. And it isn't like they can't afford the risk. I'm sure more than half of the game development studios in the world would be willing to pay ridiculous sums of money to be allowed to make Pokemon games. This makes me think it's wholly a creative choice, and it's one I really can't understand. via /r/pokemon http://bit.ly/2E0qaNT
