"Adventure Week was a success: thank you, Niantic"

#PokemonGO: Adventure week was a large success for me personally. I had been stuck on the Meltan quest line, I’m sure you know the one. I work at my local library, and one of our regular patron’s son’s is a little weird, but we’ve connected because of Pokémon Go and the Let’s Go games. The family was in to sign their children up for our summer reading program, and their son of course asks about what cool Pokémon I’ve caught. I show him my recent Snorlax, and some things I’ve hatched. He wants to see for himself so I hand him my phone. He’s flipping through my dex as I’m chatting with his mom about our summer program and events when he pipes up, “There’s an Aerodactyl on the radar.” I pause. I look at the phone, and sure enough, just two blocks down there’s one at a stop nearby. He desperately wants to go get it (and to be honest I do too!), but his mom isn’t done checking out books. That’s when an idea pops into my head. I have a decent relationships with this family, and we are fully staffed, so I ask his mother if it’s all right if I walk with him down the street to catch the Pokèmon. She says that’s wonderful, because she knows he’s really into Pokémon Go, and he’s so eager to chat about it with me. So I tell my manager and off we go! We arrive at the stop and he’s so excited! We send gifts to each other, but this is our first time catching a Pokémon together. We both caught it! For me, it was a really neat moment to connect with this little kid in my community (but also to finish my Meltan quest!). We walk back to the library and he runs up and shows his mom who says it’s very cool, and thanks me for taking him.It wasn’t a massive thing, but it meant a lot for this kid, and it was a really neat interaction that otherwise wouldn’t have happened.
