"Recommended battle parties are basically useless now"

#PokemonGO: It’s been awhile since Niantic changed their recommendation algorithms for raids, and with every boss rotation it becomes more apparent that the changes, while probably well-intentioned, were actually not for the better. When battling Kyogre, it’s important to know what charged move you’re facing, since that pretty much dictates your team (see the GamePress florkchart posted here a few hours ago). Most notably, it’s important to know whether you’re up against Blizzard, since that should be an indication that your Grass-types need to stay on the bench. When Kyogre was last in raids, this was always immediately clear; the recommendations against Blizzard Kyogre would consist of some combination of Electric-types and Kyogre packing Thunder as a charged move, while Hydro Pump recommended Grass-types and Thunder recommended a combination of Grass- and Electric-types. While not always the best options for these raids, it was completely unambiguous whether or not Blizzard was coming, and it was pretty easy to tell the difference between Hydro Pump and Thunder if you knew what to look for. This afternoon I did a Kyogre raid, and the recommended team consisted of 6 double-Rock Tyranitar. Granted, the weather was partly cloudy, but the recommendation algorithm seemed not to care about the fact that Tyranitar is doing neutral damage, only seeing that the moves have big, boosted numbers. While I wanted to believe that this was worth something — after all, this means it can’t be Hydro Pump, right? — that appears not to be the case, as I’m hearing reports of the same thing for Kyogre packing Hydro Pump. Even if we could pick off Hydro Pump, I still don’t know whether I’d be leading my Grass-types to the slaughter. We’ve seen these bad recommendations in Azelf and Cresselia raids, and I certainly scratched my head at times, but I didn’t care all that much because I was pretty much rolling with the same teams no matter what. Now, in clear weather, Grass-types are being recommended for Kyogre raids against Blizzard (a friend sent me a screenshot of a recommended team of 3xVenu, 2xEggy, 1xRaikou), which is obviously not great. Sure, dodging is a bit better now (though NOT fixed; don’t get me started...) but most people I raid with still don’t dodge, and even a quarter of a boosted Blizzard is going to do more than tickle your Roserade. It will be even worse when Groudon rolls around next week, as we’ll probably see Grass-types in clear recommended against (boosted) Fire Blast and Water-types in rain recommended against Solar Beam. Last time Groudon was in raids, it was easy to spot its charged move and plan accordingly. This time, the recommendations will only be good for a weather forecast. Well, I forecast an uptick in trainers complaining about revive deficits.tl;dr: Autoselect used to be bad but useful, and now it’s bad and useless. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://bit.ly/31IOKgo
